I can do a compromise and skip half of each movie. I sat through the 3.5 hours of "Once upon a time in Mongolia". Nothing happens, yet it was strangely engaging.
Mongolia or Anatolia?
Loved the latter, haven't heard of the former!
I thought The Great Beauty was incredible. Proper art, probably the best cinematography I have seen, a perfectly matched soundtrack and great acting. It was long but I didn't really want it to end.

Really looking forward to watching the GB.

Half way through a second viewing of Alan Partidge: Alpha Papa. Was underwhelmed first time, even more so this time. Such a shame as I love the original series.
a real let down - his character is unrecognisable

I would make a law that the movies must be no shorter than 120 min. If the movie is good, 2 hours is the minimum that I want to get lost in it. If I deeply dislike it I just quit when I had enough. Especially nowadays that we watch the most at home(Lovefilm. DVD etc) with the comfort of pausing when you want for the loo or some food and you can smoke while watching etc, I like the longer the better.
Going back to Lars Von Trier, I never totally loved his movies, but I always want to watch it, I find it interesting with a lot of experimentation, intense acting in an ice burning way.
Dogville is probably one of my fav, I love theatrical especially drama. In fact The Cook the Thief His Wife & Her Lover is probably one of my fav of all times, but i don't like much of the rest from Peter Greenway. In a different note, i saw recently Rush, and it's not bad but I found it just a good movie for some light commercial entertainment, actually the only good thing is the acting of Daniel Bruhl doing Niki Lauda. Still, on IMDB got 8.3 of rating. Meh
BTW, looking forward for Nymph()maniac the uncut version.

Grand Budapest Hotel Secret Cinema was AWESOME! Yes it is expensive but the attention to detail was incredible, it was a totally magical experience, the actors milling around were great. The film is ace too, really fun and beautifully symmetrical. If you get a chance to go to the secret cinema showing do it, it is running until the 1st of April.

No films shorter than 120 mins?
Dude do you even cinema? Ever tried watching an action film longer than 120 mins? It's unbearable.

Pal, I don't watch what is unbearable, 120 or 2 mins. Only him watch it:
The Ludvico Technique...
(later we will study the subject a bit deeper...) -

Looking forward to it.

Watched Cronenberg's The Fly for the umpteenth time the other night, mostly because everything else not about insectival happenings and ears falling off is just not cricket.
^^^^I'm glad Goldblum's in The Grand Budapest Hotel as he's long overdue a smash, but all these multi-cast love-in's are wearing thinner than vehicles for Clooney and his chums.

Magical film, very funny. Yes the films symmetry visually and within in its narrative added a depth to this mid European fantasy (that takes place in Zubrowska! Ha!). Looks brilliant with the models and puppety (like Svenkemeyer) blended in with the live action.
If you go to see this, hang around till the end of the credits for a treat!

Yes though this multi cast love in had such knowing references to each of the main actors earlier roles (often reversing a trait of an earlier film).
And now that you mention Goldblums ears falling off (and fingernails) in the Fly, Wes Anderson's genius is even more apparent. -

Gravity. Wank.
Fact.
Only the second time I've ever fallen asleep in the cinema, if you count falling asleep in the planetarium as the first.
The funny thing is, I love space. -

I suspect the uncut version of nymphomanic offers more cocks / cunts and nothing else.
Happy to be proven wrong though. I did chase the uncut versions of ichi the killer (moar rape scene...yay...) And A Serbian Film (cos I hate censoring) but those movies had actual story parts cut.
Whether to see or not see genitals: Meh.

Gravity - George Clooney - Sandra Bullock = Wanks.

From Takashi Miike I would suggest Visitor Q (no worries no cocks or cunts)
A Serbian Film is one of the biggest piece of crap I ever saw, only played for the final scene based on shock and disgust.
I don't see how you can, even vaguely, compare Lars Von Trier with that. But yes, be prepared, cocks and vaginas will be on show. BDSM too.

It was more on the cut or no cut discussion. I have an aversion to movies being cut but get the impression van trier was out to provoke for the lulz with nymphomaniac. The cocks may be driving plot though ;)
I rate a Serbian film reasonably high. Didn't buy the political subtext the movies makers imply but as a quite basic study in depravity / gore it works IMHO.
Not seen visitor Q yet on love film list...

It's rubbish in comparison to that other sci-if often referred to on here; I-Robot. Has Tom Cruise in it, based in that Philip k Dick novel; 'Red Dwarf'
