A chat with Cupcakes today and some thinking I've been doing lately have got me considering swapping two of my bikes for one which fulfils the role better.
Bike 1 is a Pompetamine with guards and a rack. Running single speed with a cassette hub adapter. Heavy and a tank but very sensible, I don't really enjoy riding it but it is quite comfortable and very practical.
Bike 2 is a relatively new addition, a beautiful 853 Claud Butler frame with webbed lugs, built up with a Sram drivetrain. Not practical at all - very aggressive geometry and no mudguard or rack mounts - but great fun to ride and very fast.
For commuting I occasionally need the practicality of a rack, and mudguards are useful too. For longer rides in poor conditions I'd like something with gears which I enjoy riding.
What could I get that would combine the two nicely, and still be a little bit 'special', ie not another On-One or Surly type thing? Which I would get for the price of selling the other two, or a frame for the price of selling the Pompetamine complete and the stripped 853 frame?
