• Unless your iMac has an eSATA connection, any speed gain from SSD would likely be choked by USB/FW.
    I'd gladly cast out an internal optical drive to get an SSD directly connected via SATA. This replaces your internal SuperDrive.

    Thanks for the info. I wondered if that might be the case. Hadn't considered an external optical drive though. Duh! That external superdrive you linked to is apparently not compatible with my iMac, not sure why that'd be though. I wonder if there's an external case I could mount the iMac's optical drive in and connect via usb?
