a SSD will make a massive difference but 60GB is pretty small... maybe get the cheapest HDD you can and get a cheap 120GB SSD and get someone to put it in...
Sohi, this isn't "the angry" internet, people tend to be more civil here... I never use a machine without at least one back up (as well as off site for projects) so have no fear of Raid 0 and have seen impressive results with it (videos).
