  • This might be of interest to free maps users:

BikeRouteToaster's route import/export functionality has been down for a while (looks like the site is being updated, though, so it might be back soon).

This scuppered my normal method of getting a tcx file with turn-by-turn instructions for my Edge 800. (Could've sorted it by upgrading my RideWithGPS account but didn't want to spend the money).

Turns out GPSies will export cues, and can add them to imported routes (as with BikeRouteToaster you don't even need to register). It gives you a frightening array of export options - I went for 'Garmin Course TCX' from the 'Track' list, and it worked a treat. It gives you the nice satnav-style integrated white arrows on the Garmin, rather than the little pop-up arrows that I got when using BikeRouteToaster exports. Much easier to follow :-)

(BikeHike is another option, and seems to be more of a direct equivalent to BikeRouteToaster, but a section of one my routes got messed up during upload and there didn't seem to be any way of correcting it, which is why I moved on to GPSies.)
