Just got back from the Martin Parr / Tony Ray Jones exhibition at the science museum. Highly recommended. It was interesting seeing the photos Parr had selected from Jones' unused shots - you could definitely see his hand in the chosen images.
It actually made me warm to Parr a bit more - I've previously been of the opinion that his photos are kind of taking the piss out of people; his Last Resort stuff from New Brighton seemed like a bit of a snarky remark on poor northerners and then his stuff on the middle class could be construed as a way of remedying any opinions people might have had about it. His photographs are also usually from an outsider's perspective too which reinforces this. Tom Wood, on the other hand is always more involved in the subjects and become part of the scene in a way.
Anyway, the stuff in this show basically changed my mind about it, it seemed more sensitive somehow.
