^mental in the sense of 'awkward' or in the sense of 'interesting'? ;-)

do it. I like it.
drop bars would be my preference though. -

The simple thought behind is that the route that I'd go with it is around 10% woods and 90% city.
For 10% woods you can just use a track bike as long as you put some tougher tyres on. I currently use a Precursa with 25c Marathons and it is fine in the woods, on singletrack, on fireroads etc,.
It clearly wouldn't cut it for cyclocross (it is fixed and has no brakes) but for road and woods it is great. -

what Chinese frame that you use zdrenka? any links on the build process post? i'm looking at the FM058 and FR601 (prefer cantis than disk)
although i may end up building an 1x9/10 if this route is chosen.Mine is an AC024 = same as On One Dirty Disco mould. 58cm frame came in at 1300g and 450g for the fork. Very stiff and has handled anything I've thrown at it.
However, I think there are better frames out there by now if you should end up with discs anyway. Biggest mistake is having the rear caliper within the rear triangle. -

I assumed that it's not as powerful as a seatstay mounted caliper?

Collects mud?
-
• #1785
I've not experienced either of those ^ & ^^ problems :-/
I've also found it works better with wheel removal on horizontal dropouts.

My other problem is that the seatstay get in the way of setting up caliper.
-
• #1787
Saying that, I can imagine it's a pain when the mount is packed tightly into the corner.
Like this.
Mine ( not my photo ) has loads of room.

About the day one- I have bought one for my commute, feels fairly weighty in the ride but has handled the weather beautifully. Discs are great although I am using a bolt on cog so only the front brake is functioning. Took my geared crosscheck out today for some green laning and felt much more spritely even with racks etc on. Not tried the Genesis off road yet for comparison. I am no where near London so can't offer a real world experience I am afraid.

Unless you're runing hydraulics cable routing has to go by the downtube. The cable ends up collecting additional mud at the cranks and get a little in the way when/if you lift your bike by the downtube.
Some frames also have problems clearing the heels on the back stroke. I personally have experienced "adjusting" my rear brake while riding. Its rare but it has happened. -

Maybe due to being bit lighter with canti's ?
This one will be for sale soon once new rig is rolling :)

got this one muddy today, was a lot of fun! I will probably put a drop/hood setup on it for racing, but enjoying the risers at the mo.

had one. The trail sucks (70). Felt rly slow and unresponsive.
Mental project, I reckon carbon CX forks would be a better idea though.
