  • ^ This be any good? - HiBike.de - Easton spokes

  • what rims are at similar level/weight/price to open pro's but a bit wider?

  • DT Swiss RR440?

  • aren't they twice the price?

  • Open Pro is €59 according to Mavic.

RR440 and R440 Assymetrical are both £50.14 on Starbike.

  • cheers

  • H+SON TB14 are a couple of mm wider again (but slightly heavier, again).

Might be thanks, my translate-fu is weak though.

  • ^ Top right hand off page, click on the english flag, makes it speaky engrish!

  • Hhhmmmm, tempting. Need an excuse for some new disc wheels...

  • Need to replace a bladed spoke on my Easton Ea90 aero rear. Mixed info on goggle about if they're cx or cx-ray. Anyone in the trade know tru-fact or should I just get in touch with Easton?

Let me lavish some facts on you: you can measure spokes, Sapim advertise the dimensions of their spokes, point 20 is about replacing a rear wheel spoke - http://www.eastoncycling.com/en-ca/road/faqs/.

  • mavic a719
    same price
    same build
    slightly wider

Thanks for the lavishment, things have already moved on.

CX seem to be tricky to get hold of, so I gave Easton a shout at the weekend for advice.

  • Need to build wheels for my fg. I wanted both wheels black but I know that the front will look bad because of the front brake. So I will go for a black formation face (32h - cross 3) laced on a black gran compe. This will be heavy, so I need a silver, low profile, light and cheap front wheel maybe with 20 spokes - radial. Any suggestions? Does the gran compe hub give a 42mm chainline so I can combine with omiums?

  • Silver where? If you just want something with a ready-rubbed brake track, it's hard to look past an R501 for £50

  • Thinking for all-silver front wheel, as the frame will be raw aluminum with a carbon fork. How about open pros on miche llow-flange? Is this better than R501? Not a fan of Shimanos really.

  • Once you start being more concerned with looks than performance, you're asking the wrong person.

  • I'm planning a wheel set for a Pompetamine or similar, need to make up my mind on the frame, but likely a Pompetamine.

I'm looking for rims for 28-35 mm tyres with stainless eyelets (preferably double with both stainless) and wear indicator any recommendations around £30 would be much appreciated although if necessary I could stretch the budget. The wheel will do road and rough stuff.

I was looking at Rigida Sputniks but have just seen some photos of very rusty eyelets and they're a bit heavy.

Mavic Open Sport was also on the list until I noted a crack on my 26" built wheel around an eyelet. That however, could be down to my bad wheel building.

    Cheers

  • ^ Ambrosio Excursions? They were very cheap too recently via PX website.

  • ^ can they take 28-35 mm tyres? They're internal width is only 14 mm.

  • Plenty 29er options on a Pompetamine, as you'll be using disc brakes so can use disc-specific MTB rims. Harder to find rim-brake rims of a decent width to go with 28-35 if you go down that route.

  • ^^ might squeeze 28 but not 35, my bad.

Sorry, I should have mentioned I'd like a braking surface so the wheel is more multifunctional.
