Cutting the ends off the black caps will totally defeat their purpose, their there to stop the sharp end left my cutting stabbing you.
Nothing a quick job with a dremel can sort out really,

^ a world better apollo

thx..
Who wants to guess what this will weigh all in? Sub 12kg would be an achievement it seems.

I weighed my Cross Check, was around 15kg with the porteur rack I think... for everyday I don't really care though. Going to make a thread for it and potential LHT for g/f shortly as I went and had a bit too much fun in the bike shop on Saturday afternoon...

sub 12kg is ultralight in the touring world, no way you will achieve this.
You're looking at around 15kg minimum, probably more.

^ sweet, my bike's on trend!
-
• #333
Yeah, you're probably right actually. miscalculation. Although 15kg seems high?
Currently weighs 10.3kg as pictured below

rack lief is a good one. I just got the badman back on the road, avec rack and pannier for commuting. god damn it's just so good! FFFfuuuuu backpack ...

Currently weighs 10.3kg as pictured below
Bar the front & rear derailleur, cassette, chain, cable, housing, brake, brake levers, handlebar, bar tape, saddle, shifter, etc.
It will add up, but it wouldn't matter anyway, you got your Somec for that.

Sadly us correctly heighted people will never be able to be true weenies

Vertical obesity?
BTW a friends' similar spec (without rack, but with leather saddle) comes in around 14kg. I think that's a 58.

crankset looks boss.
re
recently fitted some pdw full metals. drilled off the L bracket on the front, drilled a hole in the fenders and fitted with a daruma bolt. looks much more elegant. had space with a steel road race fork, so you'd have plenty. let me know if you want pics.

you still need a bolt through the fork crown or a caliper in place though... I could just sharpie the L bracket, seems easier
-
• #345
completely missed the lack of caliper.
it looks really neat. you could use a recessed nut and large faced screw.
build not supposed to be easy!(sell the bleumels and rattle can black some hammered tf imports...)
-
• #346
Weren't you planning on running a front rack/decaleur? Most of those have a bolt through the fork crown...
-
• #347
indeed it does!
-
• #348
So now the choice is playing with a drill or colouring in...

It will be a little neater with the bung and as you're going to have a front rack there will be an equivalent to the caliper bolt in your diagram.
The only thing is it will be more of a faff if you need to move things about - like removing or fixing the mudguard... which if you're riding it around town and locking it up might be an issue.
At the end of the day you haven't chosen the cleanest looking 'guards, so I would er on the side of functionality.
tl;dr - sharpie

I ran 9s Deore on my LHT with 12-34t with 42/34t chainrings and friction bar-ends. Would get indexed ones if i build something similar again, friction felt a bit too mechanic at times.
Paging psee....
Can you show me a closeup pic of the mod you used to attach the carrier? Did you make your own or just bend the supplied one?
Rear also trimmed and fitted. A little more fiddly than the front, but seems good :)
