It refuses to hold the bike at an angle, the "support beam" for lack of appropriate technical term, the bit that goes between the clamp and the stand, just rotates around... I'm panning to try carbon paste next, but pretty un-impressed at the performance.

Ha, great minds etc. I tried araldite and "keying" the surfaces that were slipping but it wasn't enough.
