  • So, over the winter my CAAD10 went off for a little spruce up courtesy of James1234/ No Quarter.
You may have seen it naked:

You may have seen a little teaser:

But soon it will be in my hands...

    Forks:

    Frame:

  • Will be updating as and when with this project, need to get myself to Leicester to pick it up first though!

  • Well it's certainly bold!

  • Looks good. Are you having 'dale decals put on?

  • Will be having some decals put on, yes, just need to talk to our resident graphics people...
Was thinking CAN'T as an idea.

  • wow. pink and lime green was my favorite colour combination. back around 2005...

  • Not really my choice in colours .. but saying that it looks like some nice paint work and certainly looks different from the norm

  • Whoa o.O

    Obvious comment is obvious, but...

  • Why did you go for the black?

  • Bit more subtlety, better match with components.

  • Mental. But cool. I like.

Dales should have frankly bonkers colours anyhoo.

  • Cool.
I have a CAAD10 the black and white 2011 version. Which incarnation was this originally?

  • Liquigas, 2011 I think.

  • The faux liquigas colours were woeful. Respray: mandatory.

    Good work.

Didn't you have a matte black C10 too?

  • Yes. I did, but essentially, it was meant as a temporary replacement during the respray, and the weather got too bad for me to use it over señor bears super cheap caad5, so it went.

To be honest, I hadn't really thought that move through...

  • Current plan is that perforated tape in black with a cotton underlay on the bars, one side pink, one side green, so you get a glimpse of colour but nothing to gaudy.
Cables will all be fluoro green (maybe black).
    Everything else will be black.
In the parts store are some Zipps, and a SRAM red/ ultegra group set, which is all black basically, so should look OK.
Need to find some non-compact chainrings, or maybe swap a BB30 SRAM Red Compact 172.5mm for non-compact. (Have been riding 53-39 all winter- so used to it now).
    Yep, should be fun.
Also probably a slammed stem. I don't know.

  • but nothing to gaudy.

This project is all about subtlety

  • Exactly.
Fuck-I had a fluoro and green tartan bike in the past (may it rest in peace), this is nothing.

  • Slight warning - can't really tell how much paint has made it into the BB shell but be careful when removing it if there's any on the bearing surfaces.

BB30 has pretty tight tolerances; you'll want to get the paint out, but not remove any of the reamed alu surface.

  • Yay! I love it.

  • @Howard-Will pass that on to James, cheers.

  • Awesome!

This frame has had a serious amount of work, all masking has been done by hand, we haven't used any lasers or points, just old fashioned hand masking. Paint has been laid on very thin so it will be durable. We've also used what's called a mixie blend lacquer so greasy hands won't ruin the matte look, it will just wash off.

Howard, it's been masked with low tack tape and surfaces protected, absolutely no paint in the BB area. Also used carbon specific primer on the forks. We use the same supplier as Mclaren do for their primers so it's top stuff which doesn't react with the epoxy

This will look great once it's done as the final picture was taken just before we sprayed the matte. it's going to look awesome against shiny parts..

  • Just in case anyone was wondering if James was good at painting bikes... Lol

Should be porn when built though, sub'd

  • subbed. this looks ace.
