Wouldn't tires make more of a difference than frame tubing/geometry?
I have 25c on my 653 steel road bike and its is so glidey it feels as if it has suspension.
On my hybrid, I have 32c and it is jarring to say the least. I finally got used to it, and tried to force my normal way of riding. But my HEADSET got crushed because of the boneshakery. Never in my life have I broken a headset, not on an MTB or BMX either.
