  • What knife is the one on top? Looks great

  • @Arawn Chris Reeve small sebenza 21. CR knives are made really well.

  • Bacon. donut.

  • That's what I was thinking.

  • We've got a new set of Wursthof in my office and fuck ing hell I have never seen anything so sharp in my life.

The bread knife slides through a baguette like butter. Absolutely ridiculous.

  • loafheads: a little bit above my price limit :P

On a more serious note: What knives are allowed in the UK? What is legal to carry?

I got this multitool, am I allowed to carry it?

  • loafheads: a little bit above my price limit :P

Yeah, it was def more then I wanted to pay for a pocket knife but after holding it and playing with it at the store I had to have it. No regrets.
I could buy 4 cheaper knives or this nice one.
It is not my EDC. I prefer the Spyderco PM2.

btw that bacon donut is from a bakery called Glory Hole.

  • ^^ Google is your friend.

    But in summary:

    • you can actually carry any knife you want provided you have a legitimate reason*.

    • you don't need a legitimate reason to carry a non-locking blade below 3" - so that is why people say you can carry them and is the route that causes the least grief (particular if it's not aggressive looking like a SAK)

    • you can be done for anything that the police deem at the time to be an offensive weapon. So that would include a non-locking sub-3", a maglite, a bottle, etc.

    • any type of 'hidden' weapon is a big no-no. So things like walking-sticks with swords in, etc.

    • my 2p would be that if you fall into the category of someone who is likely to be stopped and searched you should assume that the police won't believe you and you should be prepared to be arrested.

  • I need to get my soldier knife's main blade reground, it's got a few knicks in it from the D-ring/key fob... Any ideas?

Moral of story: Never lend your knife to a friend that doesn't know how to use it...

A precis of UK law re carrying a knife.
It is illegal to carry a knife in public without lawful authoritay or reasonable excuse - unless it’s a knife with a folding blade 3 inches long (7.62 cm) or less, e.g. a Swiss Army Knife, bog standard penknife.
**Lock knives, **a knife with a blade that can be locked open, are not considered to be folding knives, and are **illegal **to carry in public.
If prosecuted the maximum penalty for an adult carrying an illegal knife is 4 years in prison and a fine of £5,000.
**Reasonable excuses for carrying an “illegal” knife could be **taking knives you use at work to and from work. Taking a knife to a police station to hand it in or for use in TV, Film etc or for religious purposes.
A copper on the street will probably take it from you and it will be up to you to give a reasonable excuse at court and up to the court whether they believe you.

  • So carrying a Leatherman or Gerber multitool can put you in jail????

  • that looks interesting, who makes it ?
    knife sharpening kit ?

  • ah it is edge pro

  • Does your gerber lock? I can't legally carry my leatherman because of that. I do have it when I cycle in case I need it though.

  • So carrying a Leatherman or Gerber multitool can put you in jail????

Carrying a Biro can put you in jail if the police can put forward a robust argument to say you're using it as an offensive weapon.

  • This is meant to be good and is a reasonable price:

    Lansky 3-Hone Sharpening System (LKC03): Amazon.co.uk: Sports & Outdoors

I'm planning on getting one at some point down the line once my regular kitchen steel dies. I figure it's an investment, you can use it for all your needs, and add to if they change.

  • Any multi-tool with a locking blade is illegal unless it is a work tool or part of you job. If you were a one-armed fisherman walking home from the harbour you would have reasonable excuse to carry a flick knife if you used it for work. If you end up being questioned about any knife and you do not have a "reasonable excuse" already scripted then perhaps you deserve prosecution.

  • You would have to run into a proper arse if they nicked you for having a Gerber in your bag along with other bike tools.

Carrying the same Gerber in your pocket when walking to the pub is another matter.

  • My Soldier's knife is in my pocket all the time, UK legal tho' so nothing to see here... #etc

  • shirley #edc?

Quite right but I wouldn't trust a Metpol officer to wipe his own arse or as far as I could throw him so never get yourself into a position where you get a pat down. However there's always "It's a tool for maintaining my bike which has just been stolen so I'm on foot officer". He'll soon wave you on as he'd have to do some crime recording and we all know how that works out.

  • I say it's about a 50/50 chance of coming across a bellend or a normal person with the Met. I never liked the analogy they used in training which was a carpenter going to work at 9am with a tool belt full of chisels versus the same carpenter going to a nightclub with the same chisels.

  • I apologise for my statement if you're normal but I seem to have been very unlucky in my dealings with the Met. They even stole the televisions from their accomodation in Kent during the Miner's Dispute along with Kent Police's Dragon Lights. Kent traffic officers had to catch up their convoy of coaches on the motorway to inform them of their mistake.

  • No need to apologise, the observations you make are the reasons I no longer wanted to carry a warrant card.
