Had an idea about making fake depth of field using photoshop. Its a bit like the tilt/shift effect but without a focal plane - its selective.
Used layer mask and brush tool, feathered the left hand side a bit and applied gaussian blur. Pretty weird look.
Better to use a feathered selection using lasso, then lens blur. Much more natural effect if used sparingly. Nice shot though. Here's a very quick example. Select a vague oblong shape then feather according to output size (this was feathered by 100px), then select inverse > filter > lens blur and have a play about. Will never replicate a proper tilt-shift lens, but cheaper..
