I stopped stravaing when I started Higdon. Kinda miss it...
15miles in 2:10:28 av 5.24min/km
Really really happy with that. Hot dog power ftw.
Had a gel at the halfway point and nibbled a clif blok at 6km to go. Felt I would have been a bit quicker if I didn't have to run back up Muswell Hill right near the end.I now have the hiccups.

Going to be a muddy one tomorrow

Went out before breakfast for my usual 10k. Phone battery almost dead but turned on strava hoping for the best. Went out hard and thought i'll keep at it as long as I can. It lasted all the way round, got home and picked my phone up and managed to read "44:"-something before the phone shut off.
So let's round upwards and call it a 45m 10k done. Didn't think it'd be that good, but I'm happy to surprise myself. This calls for big breakfast and burger lunch. With pint. or 2.

Might have to scrap that. Turned my phone back on and strava had saved the run. What was 9.7k last week was just 9.3 this week, though the runs were identical. The suggested time was 44:03 though.
Done some googling on strava accuracy and it seems to less than great. Time to get a garmin? Can't really be bothered with more gadgets though. Or maybe just scrap it all together and run for the sake of it.

Was going to say, its usually good at saving whatever point it dies (I believe a GPX file just has continuous co-ordinates, so it doesn't need any particular info to say 'finish here'.
Unfortunately phone GPS can be a bit crap, yeah. What phone are you using ?

how did the 10k go people?
Did 15k this morning, once I was out I actually quite enjoyed it, but I was really not looking forward to it after yesterdays ride/run, I should have thrown in a bit of a longer loop, but my pace was dropping off as my energy levels dropped from not eating anything before running.
Got a run assessment at the Drummond clinic, it'll be interesting to get a hopefully independent view on my running gait.

How do I make my HR Max higher?

• #7484
Was too knackered to maintain race pace so finished in 52:00 but tops off a 35mi week.

You run like phoebe in friends?

How do I make my HR Max higher?
How confident are you of the figure you have on strava as your maximum heart rate?
-
• #7487
I don't understand the Phoebe reference.
I've seen 185 come up when riding up Ide hill, however when I went above ~182 today it felt like I had a belt clamped round my chest.
I had to back off a bit at that point.

Nope, still don't get it.

Are the Garmin running specific devices more accurate for running than an edge cycling specific device?
-
• #7491
I would assume accuracy would be the same, but the data displayed on the device would be different?
Running tends to be shown as a pace of min/mile(or km), as opposed to MPH for riding, for instance -

Am fairly certain that a garmin will be more accurate than a phone, but my 405CX isn't always spot on. For example yesterday's Parkrun only came up as 4.92km, so an error of about 2%. That was on Hackney Marshes, if anything it's less accurate in more built up areas.

Garmins are definitely more accurate than phones - my mobile is very generous with distances and therefore speeds, which is great if I want to feel good about myself but not so great if I want, y'know, the truth.
I just got home from an extremely windy 10 miles, why I thought it would be nice to run along the river I really don't know. I look and feel like I've got a few rounds and there are a lot of cobbles on the Thames Path, which aren't nice in the wet. Still, I ate beforehand (tea and toast) and had 2 gels en route and some of that protein recovery stuff you put in milk when I got home, and don't feel hungry or broken as a result. See, I'm learning!!
Anyway, the big question of the day is: what face did Dammit pull for the race photographer??

windmilling arms, legs flying every where - deeply inefficient...

Dunno, hard to see myself as I am me. Ask Hatbeard or Tibbs.

• #7497
looking at my gps I was hitting 186 bpm within 1/2 mile of the start pushing my normal 5k pace, definitely not feeling fresh methinks.
oh well whole point of my plan is running tired and I did that, actually settled into the run quite well by miles 4 & 5 and average pace was on par with my marathon pace so have a feeling this is how it's going to feel/be like until the marathon now, only difference being the number of miles gets bigger.

hmm, I'm partially asking because I'm not sure about mine and mine is set purely based on a good old fashioned 220-age, as I havent done any proper analysis, but actually looking at some activities in the last few weeks which I would have expected to get to max HR suggest the number is lower than that.
For me getting close to max HR feels more like passing out, tunneled vision than tightness in the chest, but its probably a bit of a personal thing...
If you've seen it a few times, you must be either working out at an incredibly high intensity, or you're not hitting your max HR, in which case there's more to give which would then change your "zones".
Basically I think I'm going to have a crack at doing a proper max HR test in the next few weeks

I've got HBs old Forerunner 110. I use it for running and cycling so that I don't have to take my phone when running and so that my battery doesn't die on rides. Accuracy is much better and it wasn't too expensive for a simple tracking device. It's automatically set to run so when you upload the data you have to remember to change it to 'ride' if you've been out on the bike or you scare people with 3min/mi times

Looking forward to seeing the pictures...
That's right. Run and ride are the same app, it's just that one defaults to recording rides and one runs. Strava can record both.
