My mk1 skoda octavia vrs has a big puddle of water in the front and rear driver's side footwells. It's got a lot worse over this last week whilst it's just been sat in the street parked up. The internet says the scuttle's likely blocked with leaves and water's getting in through holes for loom and bonnet catch.
I have no idea how to sort this. What a bollox.
Scuttle panel, usually plastic is panel between bonnet and windscreen underneath windscreen wiper arms.
You will need to get a few tools together, a bucket of soapy water, J cloths (or similar).
Remove windscreen wiper arms.
Lift up plastic over at end opposite to blade. Remove nut. (13 or 14 RING spanner). You will probably then need a puller to slacken the arm off the splines of the operating spindle (Machine Mart, approx. £12 or so).
Open bonnet.
Remove the plastic scuttle panel. On the left and the right you will probably see pools of water. Remove with J Cloth. Rinse out all of the area with the soapy water to remove X years of gunge.
Now take a careful look into the cleaned area. You should be able to see a hole where the water from screen, roof area can drain out. You may have to poke out with a screwdriver blade. Pour in some water, or use garden hose sprayer. You should see water running out from underneath the car.
Job done.
Reassemble.
(Use copper slip on splines when re-fitting the wiper arms)
(Also, whilst you are in there, lubricate wiper mechanism - 3in1 or similar)Simples.

8 litre V10 and twin turbos. Brave man. I know someone was putting a Viper engine in a se7enesque kit car a while back. Don't think it ever got finished though.

You need a lot of poke to move a Volvo 240 with conviction.

It'd be interesting to know what the 'too much power' limit for a Volvo 240 is. Based on some rough and ready back-of-the-metaphorical-fag-packet calculations, we worked out years ago that it was about 780bhp for a Sylva Striker kit car. At that level you'd run out of grip at terminal velocity, at which point moah powah = moah tyre smoke.
Sadly no-one's ever tested this empirically - so far as I'm aware, no-one's ever had more than 420bhp in a Striker. Still not bad for a car which weighs less than 600kg.

Depends I think on how far down the modification route the car has gone.
Under-body aero with a rear diffuser for the 240 is not uncommon when they move the exhaust into the car and poke it out ahead of the rear wheel, which when coupled with 365 rear tyres allow a fair amount of power to be transferred to the road.
That's likely to be with a Corvette transaxle and rear end/Ford 8.8 and Jericho box/similar, so whether you still count that as a 240 is another question.

Oh, and in breaking news, it appears that I'm about to have one of these bad boys foisted upon me.
Well, foisted upon the local Morris Minor specialists. It hasn't run for at least 10 years, and did a tolerable impression of a boat when the garage it was in got flooded many years ago. I'm thinking Stage 2 1340 A-Series, a BGH Type 9 box, front disc brakes and telescopic dampers all round.

Sounds like it should be fun.
Re spaceframes:

Yes, I think it should be. Just got to get it down from Newcastle. And then pay for all the work.
Not sure what happened to spaceframes post - it appeared twice, so I deleted one, and now it's disappeared completely. But yeah, that's no longer a Volvo. It's a special with a Volvo-shaped hat on.
I have this unrealistic long-term plan to build a one-off space-framed car with a tuned 3-litre Jag V6 in it (should be good for about 420bhp on ITBs with decent head-porting and a moderately funky cam) and then cladding it in MGA panels. Never going to happen, but it's a nice idea.

Morris Travellers are lovely. Presumably you've seen the Wheeler Dealers where one gets almost completely rebuilt. Seems easy when Ed China does it!
Not sure Id bother with a highly strung tuned A series when you can fit something much better under that bonnet though -

How long was it submerged and to what height on the car? Was it drained out afterwards?
Oh and check the king pins ;)

I don't think a Stage 2 A-series would really be 'highly strung'. Particularly on Canems fuel injection. And I have a soft spot for the A-series engine, particularly the 'parp' it gives on the over-run.
And anyway, Cycliste's father (who's decided he no longer wants his daughter's old rust-bucket, hence it passing to me) is an A-series afficionado. I think at the last count he had a dozen of them. If I replaced it with anything else then the moment where I ask for his daughter's hand in marriage will be even more fraught than it will be anyway.

I thought you might approve!

I'm sure it will be on YouTube. Well worth seeking out. The back comes off, all the wood is replaced, the metal restored, engine and interior done.
-
• #18693
I'll try and dig it out. From what I saw last time I was in Why-I land, the wood is good, the interior's OK, but the bottom 6 inches or so of the bodywork is shot. The bottom of the inner wings is essentially not present. Weirdly, the floorpan seems fine, however. I'll give it to The Nice Man and see what he says. If it wasn't free, I wouldn't be taking it on, put it that way.

Do you meant the morris minor center in Bath?
-
• #18695
Here's the link. I've just watched it and I still want one of these - saloon, not traveller. I think that it's all down to one great holiday me and Mrs Sparky had in one.
-
• #18696
Cheers, I'll have a butchers later on. I definitely would want a Trav over a saloon - more lugging space. In fact, I wonder how much dismantlisation it will take to get a bike in the back of a Trav?
-
• #18697
There's not a massive amount of room but it shouldn't be too much bother. A saloon on the other hand, no chance. I guess I'd better put a roof rack on mine.
;)

awesome, sparky. i'd love a trav as my daily.
if you want a hand with servicing and shit - sing out.

ever so close to 9 sec pass
10.08@133.6mph with 1.49 60ft (best so far 134.4 and 1.45, on other runs), not bad battling a big head wind. unfortunately chewed out the diff gears, which must of locked, and also took out my rear uni in the tailshaft. not too hard to fix.
Not an option that day. Car full. :o)
