  • Let's act like the ladies we are and ride to Windsor. It's just under 40 miles from central london, there's a castle, I'm sure there are pubs. The route involves lots of parks and is predominantly flat.

Let's meet at 10am at Buckingham Palace on Sunday 22nd June.

All bikes welcome, though obvs make sure it's roadworthy etc and bring tools/spares. No brakeless.

All people welcome. Just don't be a chopper - that applies to both lords and ladies.

Extra points for anyone who wears any royal memorabilia or (fake) crown jewels (LFGSS cannot endorse actually stealing the crown jewels).

    Line of succession:

    1. hats
  • In. In my head I'm royalty, even if no one else recognises it.

  • In! (Unless I have to be in Liverpool for emergency reasons that weekend).

  • Errr, can't remember if I'm working that Saturday or not. Pretty sure not so in. Even though I despise this royal nonsense, they do have nice parks!

But we haz bikes and we can put on a show?

Hopefully the good hot chocolate place is still open.

Tell me more about this place - do you have the address?

Sure, we'll go down Lower Richmond Rd on the way to Richmond Park, so we'll be very near Barnes. I love that you claim that you might not have enough in your legs when you're going to be rowing that morning. You're a powerhouse!!

Even though I despise this royal nonsense, they do have nice parks!

I forgot to say, being a royalist is definitely not necessary. This ride is open to roundheads and cavaliers, monarchists and republicans alike.

  • Don't want to stir shit, but does this absolutely have to be on Sat 15th? Could it be on Sunday? I presume there's a good reason that you've picked Sat though, so no worries...

  • No reason, good or otherwise - happy to change to the sunday if that works for everyone else?

  • Change away - I think I have family visiting that day, so would probably be touch and go whether I could make it.

  • No brakeless.

  • Can do either Sat or Sun I think...

  • I have been informed I can't do Saturday so Sunday would be better for me too..

Presume this is a reference to the chocolate cafe?

It's on the bridge between Windsor and Eton. Was still open last Saturday cakes are yummy too!

Yes, I think that's it. It was definitely on the way to Eton. Glad to hear it's still around, it's been ages since I've been to Windsor.

I'm fine for Sunday too. Mr Cake is doing Hell of Ashdown, so would be good for me to get out as well.

  • Okay then, looks like sunday it is then! I'll update the opening post and get the title changed.

    Chocolate cafe sounds totally amazeballs.

  • This ride would be perfect for Clive. It's time he came back.

  • ^ Completely lost on me, Oliver. Does Clive enjoy dressing up as Princess Di?

  • Clive is a massive.....royalist

  • (not that I know of anyone who wants to, just asking)
Does the ultra fun rule still stand that...if you are male and want to join, that you must wear a dress?

  • It's the Windsor Chocolate Theatre Cafe, and on their facebook page someone asked why it was so popular with cyclists and the Cafe responded.

Hi it's because we have always welcomed the cycling community ever since we first opened nearly 15 years ago . Many cycling clubs treat it as a fab stop off en route ; where they know they will be treated well & quickly served . We provide healthy powerhouse sandwiches ; homemade warming soups , fantastic homemade patisseries - everything an avid healthy cyclist needs to get him on his/her way - Whether they are after a gorgeous homemade granola bar or one of our amazing hot chocolates ; there is something for everyone . We provide cycle locks ; and even warm blankets on cold days. What is there not to like ! When you are next passing come on over and we will welcome you too - services with a smile everything freshly made x
