  • Not much saddle to bar drop still...

  • It's a lots more than his original bike.

    edit - 22mm more drop.

  • Both frame have the same reach, this is all, stop making everything complicated.

  • It's meaningless if you can utilise a seatpost that's suitable.

  • Cavendish is known to tinker with his bike, let. it. go.

  • And another thread dies.

    1. All changes in pro kit are worthy of a story in the cycling press.
    2. The point was in achieving his required leg length versus frame length and you know that.
    3. They do, ever since sloping top tubes came in. This conflicts with your point 2 though. You seem confused.
    4. Once again ignoring other factors like wheel size, head tube size, fork size, post flex, etc.
  • lots (not all) roadies feel smaller equals lighter therefore giving them a competitive advantage

once you get over it, i would prefer to balance strength vs weight for confidence of not smashing due to mechanical failure

... but im not overweight or trying to shave seconds sooo

morale of the story is that if you have sponsors willing to throw you new equipment and don't have to pay for things that break doesn't matter

so long that all the measurements of the frame stay static, i would expect the shorter(ST) frame to have more torsional stiffness

    Some would not Agree.

  • lots (not all) roadies feel smaller equals lighter therefore giving them a competitive advantage.

Which is moot when you considered the UCI's weight limit of 6.8kg.

  • way out of my price range...

    but discuss

  • Smaller is stiffer. Weight limit just means they can move weight around.

  • i get that... further forward more aggressive responsive turning ability, further back better traction

    or is that theory flawed?

  • I'm 5'7" and my road bike is set up much like Cavs. I could ride a medium in many frames. But for most parts smalls fit better. Often with these smaller sizes the frame measurements dont look so different. But the slacker headtube allows a shorter stem, and you dont need to slam your saddle forward so much as seat tube is steeper. So the final bike is better suited to a smaller rider, even if at a quick glance the frame dimensions appear very similar.

These changes affect the bikes handling. Even if the fit triangle it set up the same. I suspect Cav felt better belter sprinting at 70kph with the small under him.

  • From WW:

The new bike does very little to change fit/position.

  • The spacer + big-cone-top-cap on the small looks naff.

  • Indeed, very little difference apart from the advantage of having a lower bar position when he want it.

  • The reach is exactly the same on both the 49cm and 51cm, he probably prefer to have a lower front end.

    Yep;

  • I have a bit of a problem regarding saddle heigh.

I'm finding it hard to get it right lately, if I have it at what feels perfect in terms of leg extension my knees end up hurting quite quickly but when I raise it up about 0.5-1cm my knees just feel miles better but it feels like I'm slightly over extending and sometimes my heels feel a little stretched at the end of long rides.

I've tried various saddle setbacks and pedal types/cleat angles but nothing seems to really solve it, what would you guys go for? What feels like light over extension on knee pain? I'm worried about damaging my achilles tendon so would appreciate opinions.

  • I'd go for a bike fit with Scherrit...

  • I really want to but the cost is holding me back, especially considering I'm probably stilly growing/changing shape. My last bike fit was around a year ago and I've changed so much since then.

  • Why not ask Scherrit if he can account for that, e.g. give you a bike fit in line with the likely way in which you might change?

He might be along in a moment to say that it's impossible, but perhaps it's a thought?

  • That would be ideal but I'm sure it's hard to predict height never mind all the measurements you need for a bike fit?

I might ask him when I've got the money at my disposal so as not to waste his time.

  • Indra, I have no idea about your financial situation and it's none of my business, but if you stopped spunking money on buying a new frame every other week and invested that money in getting a proper fit, then you can afford it. Getting a fit from Scherrit was the best bike related investment I ever made.

  • I'm willing to spend the money if it will help but I won't know that until I speak to him and I don't want to speak to him until I have the money to go and see him.
