  • *next week, as in whenever I get round to dismantling my old bike / assembling my new bike, but hopefully next week.

  • Trust me Rich, I bought those bars from that link and they are the ones you see in the picture. Believe!

  • @dammit, are your noodles 42 ctc?
    (sounds odd)

  • A bit too wide for me, Dammit, and I suspect they're the same shape as the Deda speciales above, right?

Gaz, consider me in line for the moment!

  • I think so, precise measurements are in my Serotta thread.

  • Okay, I'll just get the deda piegas from ribble, I can always return them if they don't feel right.

Tom are they sized C-2-C or outside-to-outside? Deda bars tend to be the latter. What are yours?

  • I think they measure outside to outside. I will double check for you soon. I have pretty narrow shoulders so the compact 40cm are great, I can't vouch for the shape of the wider ones but I read about the differences somewhere.

  • Thanks, I'd appreciate that. I really want 40cm centre-to-centre -- like you I have the planet x stradas (in that width) on another bike and love the pattern, so that's what I'm trying to replicate.

  • Condor have the Deda Piegas in stock. Well they did on Tuesday. Evans will have the Bontragers in stock beginning of February, according to their website.

  • So mine are the 40cm, but that is outside to outside, 38cm ctc.

    The measurements are as follows:

Drop (center to center) mm: (for size 36-38-40) 132
Drop (center to center) mm: (for size 42-44-46) 142
Reach (center to center) mm 86

This may well suggest that the larger ones are the anatomic shape, and the 38cm ctc are the biggest with the compact shape.

  • Hopefully that is after I bought mine earlier today... Didn't notice it and don't want to wait!

  • Thanks Tommmm. I'm undecided now as to whether to buy the piegas, or just use the speciales I have, and accept the sloped hood transition.

I dropped an email to the soma uk distributors, and they responded (within half an hour!) confirming what Apollo said: they're out of stock worldwide in the colour/ width I want, and probably won't be available til mid march. Booo (but great communications).

The Piegas in Condor are very similar to the bars on the Tricross I sold you. The reach is a tad too short for me.

  • Apollo you haz PM; 606 cheers I may pop into Condor tomorrow and have a look.

I'm happy to stop filling up the thread with my rant now...

  • if anyone wants some 40cm bonts (spatr bars) I have a pair for sale.

    edit: sold now pending collection

  • Just bought and put Bontrager ssr vr-c 44cm on my Batavus Course.
Keep in mind: they are quite wide. Compared to my old ITM Super Europa 44cm they are 2 cms wider.
I could do with 42cm instead.

    Deda 215 shallow 42cm 231g

    Deda 215 shallow 42cm 231g

Deda Piega 42cm 280g (Wiggle - who are currently selling them for £18)

Soma Highway 38cm 340g (according to Soma blog)

  • we should unite lists, so one list has reach & drop & weight

  • The Bontrager Spatr bars feel really heavy compared to Deda Piega in my experience, though apparently they're only around 300g.

  • ergos not compacts >>>>>>>>>

    Quite compact imo

Reach is a bit to far

Pls enlighten me, so mine's ergo?
mine's a purple one with Giant Men's Road Bar, compared to Vigo's anatomic Pro PLT

those flat top really killing the difference between compact & ergo for me :|

  • I tried to buy some compact piegas in Condor yesterday. No deal - they had them in 38cm and 44cm but not in the 42 I was after (o-2-o).

The shop staff were as bemused as me regarding why the model didn't seem to be on the Deda website. I asked if they might get some more in stock - answer was 'unlikely'.

  • I have some 44cm bontys for sale.
Scuffs from putting into stem but only ridden for like a month

I think the Piega on the Deda website is the new one with the RHM (compact) shape, but the photo is of the older model. If you look on Wiggle, again it's the old photo, but all the reviews mention the compact shape of the bars. Couldn't organise a piss-up...
