Should look good. Did you come to a decision on the bars? North Road bars are always a nice option, particularly inverted ones.

I love Carltons bikes, so for those interested here you can find some info on this frame: http://www.carltoncycles.me.uk/models/courette.htm

You're Italian? :)
I think either a pale green or blue but I'm not entirely sure yet.
Haven't decided on bars and I don't think I'll look for a particular one, I'll probably just buy something as and when it comes up for sale or I come across it. -

i like blue a lot.
maybe riser bars for her?
yup, I'm italian too

She says "Ciao anche a te anidel! Anche tu a Londra?" :)
-
• #33
ahahah yes, I livello and work in London too. :-)
really cant wait tonsee the final bike.
when it'll be ready we'll have to go for a Carlton ride :-)

And yeah it probably will be risers but something with a little sweep so that she can have a more upright riding position which is what she wants.
Don't know whether she will be going on any "rides" as such though haha.
Its a commuter really but she just needs to go to uni on it, 10 minutes up the road.
I'll eventually get a rack and basket/crate when I come across one pretty enough, so she can carry her bag and a hefty lock so that all my handiwork doesn't get pinched! -

The frame will be going to Armourtex in the next week and today I have ordered
2 white 700c x 28c Vittoria Randos
Brooks Flyer S in Honey
KMC chain in white
16t Shimano FreewheelAll coming together now!
Still to get:
•Handlebars, I want risers that sweep back
•Brakes - callipers, levers and cables. Need to measure the drop
•Handlebar tape, I might be able to get brooks honey tape discounted
•Inner Tubes
•A seat tube pin, it had a rusty campag one
•Headset
•Bottom Bracket
•Washers for the wheels. The nuts on the axles don't tighten enough to clamp the dropoutsAny advice on these parts is more than welcome!

Velosolo do some axle spacers for spacing out to 126mm or 130mm (i.e 2x3mm or 2x5mm washers): http://velosolo.co.uk/shoptrack.html

Fantastic! Just what I was looking for, thank you!

Although, Just checked and the wheel spacing is obviously 120
The frame however, I'm not sure whether it was a different spacing and has been changed but seems to be 120 as well. Its that with the nuts tightened, the gap between the inside surface of the nut and the outside surface of the hub is a good 7mm.
The dropouts are just about 4mm wide so although the spacing is correct, they don't fit.
I can just get those spacers and put them on the outside of the dropouts, before the nuts? -
• #39
Sounds strange, not exactly sure what you mean there. Is there no way you can just tighten the nuts further until it's tight? Even if it squeezes the dropouts in a bit it won't matter, it will just spring back. Or did I miss something?
Putting the spacers on the outside of the dropouts sounds like a bad idea to me - you want the track nut tight on the frame.
If there's a 3mm gap inside, those spacers should fit just right if you put them on the inside of the dropouts, and you won't have to squeeze the frame in every time you mount the wheel.

I'll take a picture ;)
I reckon the spacers could go on the inside if I stretch the rear spacing wider.
I don't see how any dropout would fit on these wheels without spacers -

The nuts are all the way tight

• #43
is this going to be ridden fixed or freewheel?
-
• #44
Freewheel

id look at changing the axle, or space it on the outside. or sell the wheelset and get a coaster setup. Better for a girls cruiser.
-
• #46
Not clear from the pix, but is there a 10mm axle extension which goes right through the dropout and then stops the domed cup washer? In that case, some axle spacers will fix it, or just some thick plain washers.

Laid out most of the bits today to see how its coming along.
I'm looking forward to having it done now.
Is it the general opinion to just leave all of the braze-ons on?
Theres a down tube shifter mount, dynamo light mount on the forks, pump mount hooks and cable routing (which I'll keep)
I won't be using them and have no intention of ever putting the bike back to geared or original.
But then is it gonna be a ball ache to remove them and get it smooth anyway? -

I've got some bars and levers off a Raleigh mixte at home that might work - will post a pic this evening.

Hey Phil, did you manage to sort out the issue with the rear wheel yet?
What stem have you got there? Is it a new one? It looks nice and short - just the sort of thing I need for my GF's build. Is it a 27.2 or 26mm clamp?
Looks like everything is coming along nicely. Looking forward to seeing it painted!
and some pretty cool imo wellgo pedals. They're unusual and quite small. Not to probably everyone on here's taste but I like it and so does my girlfriend and as its her bike, thats all that matters.
