How are yo you going to cut the hex fitting in the end?
I'd just go to clerkenwell (spelling?) screws and ask if they have some in stock. They seem to have everything like that and don't mind if you only want to buy 4. Just take up the ends or original bolt so they can check the size.
Sorry if you already knew all that and there was a good reason for making them from rod...

Also useful for replacements for the Phil hex axle bolts that you'll probably round out.

Today I gave the new to me Principia a quick check over and chucked on a couple of clincher wheels so I could take it out for a first ride. I am glad I didn't leave the tubs on - it was wet and muddy in the lanes and the farmers are all doing hedge cutting - result 3 punctures.
I bought this bike because I wanted the Magura Hydraulic rim brakes that are on it. The plan is to replace them with some 7400 Dura Ace calipers and some R600 levers(which I am told it left the shop with when new) and move it on .
But you can't have a bike that everybody tells you is a great ride and not try it. It is comparable in weight to my CAD2 Cannondale and is similarly fast with sharp secure handling. The big difference is comfort. The 'dale is harsh even with carbon forks and much as I love it 2 hours on it is enough! The Principia is much plusher and smoother. It is not Enigma Ti smooth but I could ride it all day without complaint.
The gearing is interesting - all DA 7400. 8 speed cassette 12-25 and 39-48 at the front. The LBS refers to this as proper training gears - no granny bailout option and no down hill cruising mode. I managed all the climbs with the low gear but couldn't see more than 38ish mph without my preferred 53/11. I like the indexed downtube shifters, never used those before.
All in all it is very tempting to keep this bike about which I knew nothing until I bought it but I am not sure that negotiation with the war office will go well - particularly when there is a Moser on the way that she doesn't know about yet!

Went to get a pair or jockey wheels to rebuild my rear MTBK mech and came home with this NOS for just a bit more money...
Still swapping one mech for another is easier than a rebuild.
maybe ;)
would of thought you could get long grub screws. how you getting a hex shape put in the end??
