I had a tough time deciding between those two, plumped for the 200 as the whole reason I'd bought a smaller camera recently was for portability, it is lighter and smaller than the 300. with the crop factor it gives you 300mm effective anyway, and I guessed that to use the full zoom range of the 300 you'd have to carry a tripod around...
