I bought some Halfords pedals a couple of weeks ago (had a voucher to use up), and to be able to ride home got them fitted in store (possible big mistake). Having ridden since then for less than 100 miles, the pedal came loose and upon removal, the pedal threads in the crank have been stripped. Halfords claim that 'cranks threads can just strip if you put a new pedal in', and then tried to shrug it off as the cranks as being crap (they're Sugino RD2s so hardly top of the range, but decent enough for a beater).
So:
a) Why do crank pedal threads strip? Is it predominantly down to bad installation?
b) Do I have to bite the bullet and buy new cranks, and probably a new BB, or should Halfords have any responsibility to replace the crank/cranks if it is their fault (can't really prove).
c) Does anyone have a LH Sugino RD2 (or other JIS) crank knocking around spare. 170mm I think, although I need to double check that.
Cheers.
