Honestly I dont have any trouble handling mine. You just need to get them used to it over time. I've had a few experiences with the black and white which has definitely brought us closer.
She was eating a wasp a few months ago and must have got stung by it in her mouth and the sting broke off. She went into quiet mode and became very agitated. Went into low pro cat walk mode. Had to coax her and open her mouth to investigate and found the sting lodged under her tongue. I held her mouth open and the missus used a tweezer to pull it out.
Also had to remove something from her eye when she stuck her head in something she shouldn’t have. Took a while but got it out in the end.
The cat must know you have helped it out as these instances definitely brought her closer to me.
I usually give her treats when i come home in the evening and have also managed to get her to sit with a bit of training. Pretty much trained to perfection.
