6:18 to 6:22 is a really strong will on wheels IMO. First check looks clean but as Joey is playing ball on the left side he can't answer back or stay strong, and the 6:22 is a T-Bone from who? Is Brian going on Will or the opposite?
(by the way, way too many hack, for me this is one of the simpliest thing to call when reffin' and one of the move who make the pressure and angrivity goes high for really really cheap)
Edit:
Watching it again, nothing is called in the whole game? i mean the arm hooking from Paul on Kremin around 13:10 looks to happen in front of the ref and the play goes on... -

Rule thread about it here:
https://leagueofbikepolo.com/forum/rules/2013/12/19/checking-a-photo
Near the last part of the thread.
The idea of "boarding" is more the distance between players and boards than the check hismelf who is put into discussion. If you're not too close and not too far from boards, a fall of the checked player can be dangerous because of the way his head and upper body gonna hit the boards. This is fr an hockey perspective, where you can check open ice or against board, but not around 1meter near the board. -

This is awesome look up and live!

Kremin just needs to bulk up a little. Nick is a boss. No-one forces anyone else to fall in bike polo (or you're going to have to define what is and isn't excessive before people start making football dives). Boarding is a silly idea. Super clean, no foul.

The check is coming from behind !! Nothing clean here buddy. See it again and try better
-
• #2236
The check is way too far from the board, it should be a foul to me. Also it's a check from behind to me too but this has nothing to do in this discussion.
Completely agree with the 1 meter rule.

^ yep,
besides hockey has gone on a long time. They have learned the hard way. Do we need to? i reckon the more safety we can glean from it the better. -

Clear check from behind. Cheap shot. I laughed though, seeing it live.

You all know checks from behind are legal (and were legal last season), right?
The only time a check from behind wasn't legal was for Geneva 2012, but that was mainly because it got confused with the check to the back rule and machine et all voted on it on day one without any kind of real reasoning.
It's your responsibility to make sure you're playing without a blind spot, look up (and behind) and live. This has been discussed on LOBP many times, etc.
A check to the back is illegal but Nick clearly makes contact with Kremin's shoulder (super clean, ideal, etc).

He hits him well behind the shoulder, even Kruse will happily admit that, and he's trying to write this sort of hit out of the game. Whether it was legal or not, it won't be in 2014.
I've seen the new ruleset (which will be out soon), and there are a lot of changes around contact, focussed towards player safety. I think Kruse and Joe have made some great advances towards a safer, fairer sport.

Very good to know, Can't wait to see the new rule set

Joe restroom? Doh! That dude is super nice guy but bad ref..
Be good to get those rules rolled out ASAP. It's a shame by the time they come out it takes us till the end of the season to understand them!

Your still only tells part of the story John:
My point still stands, this hit was (and currently is) legal, it was specifically clarified at the ref meeting in Florida (check to the back = not cool, check to the shoulder = always cool).
Fair enough if people want to make the game "safer", Bill and I were advocates for this kind of ruling years back, it wasn't popular.
Until the next ruleset is out for discussion, please don't confuse things in the here and now (Rouen is coming up, etc).

Shits gonna get real in Rouen!

So just to clarify-a check to the steering arm side is ok? I got called up on this lots in florida, I made several clean checks to peoples steering arm sides and every time the whistle was blown and the ball turned over. whats up with that?
Also I agree with Jono that Cruse made a 'legal' check on kremin in this example, it looks to be clean enough, the dangerous part was that it was too far from the boards and could have resulted in a serious injury. I think anything more than a meter and your potentially checking someone too dangerously. If they fall off before hitting the board they could go head first into it and that could lead to all kinds of injures.

That's the context of that video, as part of the discussion of the new rules, and why the conversation about boarding has been happening. I think the new rules will be out before Rouen, whether they use them is of course another matter.

Above the elbow = yes. Below the elbow = no (steering arm infraction).

Super clean check, and Kremin looks like is waiting (not enough) for it. Both strugglin' for the ball, looks really not like a cheap (angry etc...) move, but a real "create space" strategy.
Only issue is that is not far enough or not close enough from boards.Anyway the thread on LOBP is a good one in my opinion, cause the rules right now are not clear enough in my opinon, and we miss a real clarification about what is legal or not. We still thinks we could play checks as in hockey even if we are not wearing 10% of the protection gear they have and riding unpredictable metal horses.
I love to play check, often hard, but some of them who are still legal look like chessmate move to me and shouldn't be admit. Also i find weird that we are playing a sport where you can play a whole tournament with almost zero checks and then fall in game where people are just throwing themselves into each others. This is part of my doubt about lettin' checks legals, they are often useless and coming from nowhere (as they do in hockey, wich is stupid, as you can still crash into a player who have drop the puck since 2 seconds).
I'm always back on forth on this question and can't stop changing my mind...
