Chuck it over the fence that's safe enough isn't it?
The amount of yodel parcels which contain pc parts chucked over my fence and in the rain is a joke.

Unlucky, they usually leave parcels in our wheely bin or other 'safe' place.
Safe? What happens when your rubbish is collected?

Yodel, left two Castelli Gabba long sleeve jerseys in my recycling bin £185 each. Nice one.

To be fair to them, they usually take the time to wreck the packaging of whatever they are delivering so that it is cleverly disguised as real rubbish. Boot prints show that they take the time to do it in person.

Although the chainguard is worse.

For practicality innit
Just like the brakes... Oh wait

• #3236
I like the chainguard however I doubt I've seen anything as inelegant as the rear mount on it.

Aw, the chain guard is my favourite bit. Agree about the mount though. It could at least colour match the guard.

I am now the proud owner of a Pompino in white. I'm boring enough to have written a post about it too! http://www.bicycleslondon.co.uk/new-bike-on-one-pompino/
The TLDR version is that YES it has mudguards and YES it has a pannier rack because that's just how I roll. (pun intended)

So after ordering on the 23rd, I am still waiting for mine despite being told three times last week that it "is definitely being shipped today", it still hasn't been sent. I was told today it should probably be here by the end of the week though. Normally I have had pretty bang on service from PX but this has been a pretty poor experience to be honest. I am not fussed with waiting for two weeks it's just annoying to keep being told it'll be there tomorrow when they know full well it won't and they haven't received the frames from their bonded warehouse.

I have been the happy owner of a flat bar 'stock' pompetamine with alfine 8 for a year now. I am considering acquiring a 'spare' single-speed rear wheel, both to give me the option to run the bike single speed and to give me the option of being able to service the rear hub(due in a month/two)/gear cable(the cable has half snapped (replacement cable set ordered) which has enforced the realisation of how screwed I would be if I were to have bike downtime) and still have a bike to commute on.
Before I do this I wanted to check that I have my requirement list correct so that the wheel can indeed be a straight swap replacement.
If I get a 135mm singlespeed wheel, with disc mount, or have one built, should the chainline be automatically fine, or will I need to play with the eccentric bottom bracket (if so is this difficult).
The Alfine hub has a 15mm bolted skewer, with anti-rotation washers, will a quick release work ok?
The current disc rotor, for use with the bb7's is 160mm, will any 160mm rotor be ok with this set up?
Do these wheels (rear in particular) match my requirements?
Thanks in advance for any help.

It'd probably be close enough for single speed. Pompetamine doesn't have an eccentric bb.
Quick release would be OK: internal cam types (Shimano) would be better. Best would be nutted axle.
Yes. You might need to adjust the brake caliper a bit.
yes.

Thanks so much, though I do have a further question.

I thought it did, does this mean the chain tension on the pompetamine is solely determined via the horizontal drop out?

Yep.

I have a Pompetamine with the Hope single speed rear hub and cannot recommend it enough. I've had it two years and it's never let me down. It's 135 spaced. It has a short cassette body which will allow you a bit of chain line adjustment and it's held in place with two 10mm stainless cap head bolts.
You can get it as a complete Hope Hoops 29er single speed wheel or just the hub.

It also costs more for the hub than he's planning to spend on a pair of wheels :-)
Other than that, +1 to the Hope Pro 2 Trials/SS hub, it's what I've got on my Pompetamine too.

Sorry, couldn't see that a price range had been specified.
-
• #3247
I hadn't specified a price, but am investigating acquiring the wheelset I linked to as why buy new when you can recycle/reuse and it seems like a good deal. If that doesn't work out/I break it I will investigate having a wheel built (I luckily have a wheelbuilding friend) and will no doubt be back for advice about hub/spoke/rim choice.

I'm also using a pro 2 trials on a pompetamine, I like the flexibility of the cassette, it allows you to get the chain line perfect whatever crank you use. Plus they are pretty much bomb proof.

Yeah, I think the only down side is that they're so bloody noisy!!!

Mine is finished now.
Apologies for the shitty pictures but I dont own a camera, had to use my phone.
Arrived today. Need to clear some room in the shed first but will probably get started on it over the weekend.
The white is actually quite nice.
