In the olden days, well after Botham's lot anyway. I remember seeing England's 'best' players working their hearts out against oppositions that clearly contained far superior talent. Our players were ordinary, but they did their best.
This has looked like a complete contrast with some of the best players in the world, with a proven track record of doing well against the Aus players, looking like they'd rather be anywhere else and walking around in a strop because they perceive some kind of entitlement.
This is, hands down, the most disappointing series of non-cricket I've seen us play. And I've seen a few bad ones!
Looking forward to the summer now, as improvement is inevitable.
