I was just trawling through Flickr and found this from 2004 - a decade ago, now.

Decade ago the only thing in my pocket was a NI card I got from some Brazilian student who left the country.

I have a strap cutter and some leather punches, and used them to cut a strip from an old belt made from thick calf leather. You could use a sharp Stanley knife and a metal rule. I used the punches to punch a hole at each end and to shape the ends neatly.
You could use any bolt with a nylock nut to thread the keys through, but I found a nice sleeve bolt from an ikea wardrobe in my toolbox. (It was meant to join two wardrobes together). A couple of minutes with a Dremel to shorten it to the required length and I was done. The fold in the end of the leather was done with a big hammer.Simples.

I tried to ask this in the 'wallet' thread but its a pretty much dead thread so i'll ask here
does anyone have a card wallet/recommendations
i have a bulky wallet but all i carry is 8 or so cards. change in my pocket and a maximum of £20 in cash which i just keep in my pocket/a card slot anyway
would prefer something with at least a 2 or 3 splits to keep the cards a bit organised but thats not essential
#bloodyskinnyjeansMobilepocket app on your phone mate. I only carry bank and credit cards (in a lovely chrome exel wallet from Murts btw) all my loyalty cards, wholesaler cards etc are on my iPhone. Sorted.

Found this, based on the leatherman idea. http://mykeysmart.com
Will mail them to see if they will post to the UK.Awesome, cheap too. Let me know if they do. I imagine a few people here would be interested, maybe a bulk order would be worthwhile.
Yes they deliver to the UK, just select international shipping when you get to the checkout.

Just ordered the extended frame version and the 4 -10 key expansion pack. UK postage was just $7.99 and a handy 15% discount code popped up while I was ordering, just enter 15off. Whole lot cost just over $28. I'll post some pics and do a review when it arrives.

I was so impressed by the elegance and simplicity of the Orbitkey on Kickstarter that I made my own.
What stops the keys just flopping about? Have you added spacers or something on the bolt and done up the nut tight enough so that they're not free to rotate about the bolt?

Oh how the times have changed!!
I was a computer science student at the time. There's a Wi-Fi finder on my keyring, because back then wireless networks were rare enough that you had to wander around looking for one and they were often open. No 3G/4G then... And a 512MB flash drive on my keyring which cost a fortune. I'd love to know what those printed-out papers were - the research is probably already practically implemented, commercialised and obsolete by now.

I shortened the bolt with a Dremel so it is tight and holds the keys by friction.
You could also use a washer and a coil or two from a small spring to maintain tension.

I also home made a key carry, after too many holes started appearing in all my trousers/legs. Just made from a piece of aluminium I had hanging around and a bolt from an old photo album. I drilled the keys to 5mm hole diameter and took off some off the excess plastic, nothing too fancy, but works for now!

I've also recently purchased one from kickstarter, yet to arrive but I'm hoping it'll do the job. (With extra crabon!)

Need a 'what's hanging off your bike' thread for the grafters on here.
At a push I can get boots, work lid, full climbing kit, misc tools and chainsaw on my Surly..
Have previously carried multiple Festool cases/long levels/large paint rollers etc to sites on it as well. -

There's an old boy I see most days in kings road with a large plastic samsonite suitcase drilled onto each side of his panniers. He only goes at walking pace

There's an old guy who rides in on the same commute as me most days.
Rides an old, rusty steel frame with a three speed hub and has plastic crates bolted to the front and back. Must be mid 60's and has a position so aero it makes Bradley look like he's TT a Pashley Princess. He also wears the shortest shorts I've ever seen. All though the winter, even in snow. #properhardcore
