I think I broke one a couple of years ago, I could feel it crunching when I moved. I went to a&e where they prodded me (I cried, it was embarrassing), said it was probably broken and told me to go away because they couldn't do anything.
So I have no advice beyond don't go to a&e and have lots of baths.
