I use a Cateye Volt 300 on pitch black country lanes. On main beam its 300 lumens is ample. I'm sure I'd want more off road. For road use thousands of lumens are not required and is a danger to yourself and others through dazzling other road users.
I have used a 700 lumen l
Lezyne light but the beam pattern was not as good as the Cateye.
