  • A Journey of Discovery: Front End Geometry - Jan Heine

    The Singer have similar handling characteristic to my Oak.

    That's interesting as my Serotta feels both more stable yet also more direct than my other bikes.

  • Going to have a quick check on the CSI geometry to see what you meant, my Oak have 35mm of trail with a 72 degree headtube.

  • Just to say, I'm not sure if anyone has posted any info about the 650b bike discussed above, apologies if they have. But a bit of research tells me that it's an Elephant Bikes National Forest Explorer and the frame will set you back $1585.

  • I was wondering about that frame, thank, very tempted by it as I can simply swap the component of the Genesis CdF into that.

    Dammit, found geo chart, made no mention of the fork trail and I can't be bothered to work it out.

  • Not sure of the lingo here, rake is 43mm, I'm guessing that is not the same as trail?

  • Diagram should help;

    Quick calculation tell me your trail is around 53mm, could be very, very wrong.

  • Thank for that, a really useful website.

  • System Six is 56mm according to that site- not exactly a massive difference?

  • Oak;

    72 Headtube.
    69mm fork rake.
    35mm trail.

  • Very interesting and helpful.

  • It's kinda like asking why people prefer a saddlebag over two panniers on the rear, it make sense on a day-to-day basis.

    FWIW* I've gone from preferring a Carradice saddlebag on my commuter to a single rear pannier for the space, the lower CoG and the lack of bounce from the saddlebag rack.

    *I've calculated this to be somewhere between "nowt" and "fuck nothing"

  • To be fair, it's quite hard to stop a Carradice bag from skipping, the bikepacking option is definitely a better alternative to a pannier/rack.

  • Ed, does the bagman 2 version of the carradice rack not eliminate the bounce?

    I'll be able to answer my own question later in the week as I have recently ordered one but not fitted it yet.

  • Upside down light isn't very functional

  • How can you tell it's not one of the edelux lights designed to be used upside down?

  • How can you tell it's not one of the edelux lights designed to be used upside down?

    Even if, it dont matter as a large part of the light output will only illuminate the wheel and the guard.

  • Yeah that does surely have to be an issue

  • That is fucking RAD.
    GT used to make some amazing bicycles.

  • They used to make touring bike too back in 2011;

    Currently they sell this;

  • Not in the UK I'll bet.

    I've got my eye on an old gt cross frame actually, but it'd a bit over priced

  • panniers are a hassle for city riding if you have to leave the bike on the street - it's a faff to take them off whenever you leave the bike. Rack + normal bag + bungy is far more practical.
