  • I got some of these for Christmas

    http://m.specialized.com/us/en/ftr/gloves/cold-weather-gloves/element-15

Rode this morning in ~6℃ and ended up with sweaty hands, forecasting 4℃ tomorrow so will be good to see how they are. Feel nice and comfortable, look decent and reasonably priced too.

  • I'm quite the trend setter....

  • Someone stole my one of my winter gloves a few months ago, I might pick some of those specialised up tomorrow if they get the general seal of approval?

    Anyone try them with liners?

  • This morning was definitely too cold for the Elements 1.5 as I managed to arrived at work without making the Nemo damp (fnar).

TM's spot on about it's being perfect for around 6℃, any less (plus wind chill factor) will required liner.

Beware, overkill stitching inside, but brilliant for using instagram with.

Yeah, I used mine with merino liners no problems

  • definitely going to grab some neoprene: I can put up with pruney & smelly more than frozen & miserable

sealskins all-weather are rubbish. another week, another ride where I get soaked through after 30 mins of rain and spend the rest of the ride nursing frozen fingers

  • nope, it's not a myth, sweaty but warm.

buy these (they're really good, I love mine...but sweaty and fit tight so consider upsizing) http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/5mm-Neoprene-Gloves-Diving-Watersports-Swimming-Jet-Skiing-Snorkelling-/261228701816 , at least if you don't like them you've only wasted £10. here's a weird video of someone putting on gloves

awesome - just realised this store is based in glasgow; will pop down on monday and bag a pair. worth a try at least at that price

Mr. Scoble, answering the important questions.

After a good few years of discussion, I'm glad we're getting somewhere on this forum: Spesh Elements 1.5 holding Spotter Bars. Now, for the rest of the bike?

  • I've got some of the neon yellow DeFeet gloves going spare. XL, new with tags £10

Silver SRAM rival, has to be the groupset

  • Defeet Dura wooly still doing it for me even today. They are made by wizards.

The defeet wooly are good. But only down to 4-5 degree. Nice gloves to ride in though. Easy to get stuff from pockets and comfy. I do find they slip on the gear paddle sometimes, but that's like all gloves. Would like to find a rubber strip to stick onto the gear paddle and brake front really.

Brought a pair of DeFeet Duragloves Wool, and holy shit, they're indeed made by wizards, they look like they wouldn't stand up to it, which is quite the opposite.

Hand was very toasty and dry which is a nice change from toasty and wet from the Endura Nemo.

  • Wore them in the worst of the rain this morning and hands stayed warm even with them completely sodden through to the skin.

Rode in 4℃ and pissing rain last night, hands were the only warm and dry part of me.

    TM approved!

  • The Altura gloves are certainly not waterproof but they are warmer than anything else I have so I'll hang onto them.

these are the best winter gloves ive ever worn. Fit amazingly, very comfy, warm but dont turn your hands into sweaty raisins. Also they give good grip and support for your hands.

Thing is they dont seem too sturdy and i reckon they will be on their last legs by the time summer comes around. As good as they are, they arent worth £75. Id probably spend the £40 i got these for again but not much more

Just grabbed a well used pair of these off the Bay for £20 or so. Not an item I've needed up here so much in the past. But with the recent dry road bike friendly winter weather we've had. I thought I'd try a pair out.

    .

Yeah, they're so little too. So easily go in a pocket if it's unsure temperature.

  • Not sure if these have been covered, but they're on sale. I've used them for two winters so far and they're amazing!

5mm Neoprene Wetsuit Gloves - YouTube

update - these are awesome but I wouldn't recommend you buy them for cycling. they'll definitely keep you warm in wet cold conditions but the 5mm neoprene is too thick so you lose feel and the 'grip' on these is non-existent

I wonder if lomo's thinner neoprene 'kayak' glove might be better - since it's engineered to give better feel while retaining the heating properties of neop

  • ^^^take that back: I LOVE these gloves. sure you sacrifice a little dexterity but it's more than made up for by the warmth. no cold fingers whatsoever these past two rainy weekends (4/5 hour rides)

highly recommended and a snip at £10

  • Oakley SI or nuffin. They make lovely spring commuting gloves

    this

  • I put my gloves down while locking up last night and forgot to pick them up - by the time I realised, they were long gone. Riding home gloveless was horrible, I made it just over a mile before I lost feeling in several fingers.

So now I need new winter gloves. What's the consensus? I don't want very expensive ones, as did I mention I just managed to lose my last ones... I need something warmer than the defeet woolly ones/sealskinz all weather/whatever else I've tried.

  • Sealskinz ultra grips kept my hands warm on a 9km commute in -5°c. Not pricey.

What temperatures will you be riding in? Would help getting some more info about the future use..

  • ^ Riding mainly in/around London, so whatever winter decides to do next I guess. I have poor circulation and wear full fingered gloves for all but about 3 months of the year.

  • Castelli chiros are good. Bit thick but plenty room inside i suffer badly from cold. My finger have got cold inside but warming up is instant so i can live with that

Been using them for past 2months constant. Been overly warm once so far
£55 a pop. Sealskinz are shit
