  • dont worry bout actuations too much. 100,000 is the rating, but the reality is even a lower spec nikon can go far far beyond that before anything noticable happens.

Oh I'm not particularly fussed about that. The D200 I'm using is on around 220k. As a heavy user, I try to get something with a low mileage to extend life. I'm just stumped over why it depreciates so little.

I think the D700 has held up quite well because its a bit more rugged compared to the D800 and plenty of pros are still using them and its a good resolution for a lot of people etc.

That's the thing. The D800 has the same magnesium construction as the 700. Ignoring the technical aspects, which I'm not fussed about except AF speed and ISO capabilities. I don't get why the 700 (2008 introduced) is still near enough a grand, and the 800 (2012) is around 1500.

The only reason I want the D700 is ergonomics. It fits my hand like the D200 does and the button placement I find perfect. I'd change to Canon as I don't have allegiances to any one company, but I despise how Canon's handle and their stupid menu's.
Anyone use any other make that is rugged and speedy as Nikon?

D200, around 220,000 actuations and still going strong. I love how accurate you can work with this camera at speed. Iso1600, 35mm.
