I just got a fresh hacksaw blade, plenty of oil, and did my best to follow the original line. Then cleaned it up/got it perfect with a file.

cheers... do you mean you cover it oil as you cut?
(noob question - sounds like making a salad to me)

And no problems with the stem safety-wise since cutting?
The quill walls of the Pearl don't seem to be tapered so I'm guessing it's thick enough to stay safe all the way down.
