Um, don't really get all the Jeez hate, he seems to be just thinking out loud and joining in on a discussion with relevant, if a little unstructured, views on the subject being discussed? And simply saying someone's views are irrelevant because someone, somewhere else has said is about as useful as saying 'repost'. And to all the 'can we not talk about this any more' crew, what is the point of forums if not to discuss topics as and when they come up?

Eh, he's a sophist. It gets grating.

Why is it a bad idea to created a topic to address the serious issue of rape?

Reminds me of the Brighton Naked Bike ride I did in the summer.
Fully clothed, Middle aged dirty old pervs blatantly just pointing their cameras at girls bits and pieces.

Naked bike ride! Haha sounds like a laugh but not for me. Especially with my stripped slr for a saddle. I can just imagine the type of men aswel.

Sorry, one last note on the rape convo
This is why the warning signs are missed when someone goes from being a harmless perv, someone who doesn't respect personal space perhaps but wouldn't actually violate anyone to a proto-rapist i.e. someone who would rape if they had the opportunity (sorry BQ if you don't like that word but it only applies to a very tiny minority of people, it's not accusing 'all men' as you think).
I still think it's not a helpful term. It doesn't mean anything. How can you tell when someone is a harmless perv, and when they would rape given the opportunity? You can't: it's just thought-crime. Basically you cannot identify a proto-rapist until they actually become a rapist and give you the benefit of hindsight.
I think it's more productive to call out the not-respecting-personal-space behaviour and nip it in the bud at that point.
We are all, given sufficient motive and opportunity, 'proto-criminals' to some extent, but until such time as we actually commit a crime, what we actually are is innocent. Believing oneself capable of committing a crime, or thinking about it, are not and should not be objectionable actions.Because if the first actions are too 'grey area' to be rebuked then they would have the confidence to move on to more serious actions and still feel immune to any kind of reprimand.
This is also kind of my point. The first actions are not too 'grey area' to be rebuked. Rebuke them at that stage, when actual offence has been caused, rather than holding off in case a more serious situation develops.
Anyway back to the WTFs

Believing oneself capable of committing a crime, or thinking about it, are not and should not be objectionable actions. As I understand it the term was being used in relation to those people, like in the american survey for example, who would answer 'no' to 'would you rape someone' and 'yes' to 'would you have sex with someone without their consent' Therefore these people are potential/proto rapists because they aren't thinking 'Yeah I know it's a crime but I'll do it anyway' but aren't even aware they're acting criminally

I don't think it's a bad idea, but not a necessary idea either. It's probably more useful overall to talk about it in random normal threads where it gets all up in people's faces than it is to talk about it in some other thread that nobody is really going to read. It'd also shut down useful discussion elsewhere because people would start being all "RAPE THREAD >>>>>>>>>>>>" whenever it crops up.

That's a better way of saying 'it'll be abused' which I was going to write last night but didn't think jokes would be appropriate.
