I bought one of these a couple of weeks ago to save spending about 3 times as much on the cat sitters to come and feed our two over New Years when we are in NI. Got some really cheapo batteries (takes 4 x D cells) just to try it out and they're still going. Will stick some new duracells in there for when we actually go away. The only downside is that the dispenser is just a simple cylinder with a slot that rotates to pick up food and then dump it into the tray. If the level of food inside drops too low, it doesn't pick up as much on each cycle so the portion sizes are smaller. Not a problem if you keep it filled up though.
Currently set for 3 times a day but will probably do 4 while we are away so if the neighbour cat nicks one meal, there will be enough throughout the rest of the day.
You can also control the portion size (number of rotations of the cylinder) for each feeding.
Yeh I should have mentioned the thing about the dispenser -it is a bit annoying, I try and keep mine topped up, and open up the top every now and again to make sure its level in the hopper.
I only feed the wolf automatically 1 portion, once a day. This means that he might get some meaty or fishy leftovers in the evening, or I just push a couple of buttons at the back to do a manual feed. If we're away he only gets fed once a day (I make sure there is plenty of water around)
He's quite capable of catching some extra food if he really wants to.
I would say he's fully grown now and was around 4.3kg at his last weigh - which the vet said was normal - he's definitely not a fat kitty. He's coming up to his 2nd year anniversary with us now, I still don't know where he came from, but he's happy with us now.
On the great wet vs dry debate. It's mainly because I don't know whats in the wet food - I feel like it's the cat equivalent of a ready meal - admittedly the same could be said for biscuits - but with the meaty stuff I'd rather give him something that I can actually identify as meat or fish. That said, I'm lucky the wolf will literally eat anything (we play a game in our house - will the wolf eat it) - my last cat was a fussy bitch and wouldn't eat anything apart from go-cat and whiskas pouches

Here he is on the scratching post I made for him.
