  • Fucking hell, James. Awesome!

  • Painful story bro.
    Dat Lister. Ooof.

  • Not the same as James' insane mini crash, but I was off-roading in a rusty (fucked and with no mot) range rover, we hit a puddle hiding a submerged fencepost and it punched straight through the floorpan, fortunately missing everyone.

  • How much is peoples' car insurance, if you don't mind me asking? Just been looking at a few quotes online as I will most likely need a car next year. Was quoted £875 for a 1.2 polo, and £1020ish for 1.8l 3 series and C class saloons.

Any good reasons not to go for the BMW or Mercedes? £1k seems like a lot, but its not much more than £875 and doesnt seem too unreasonable for a first car insurance? Please tell me if I am wrong though!

  • Nearly £900 for a shitty Polo is not worth it. BMW and Merc are though.
I owned a 1.8-litre Merc 190E (my first car, aged 26) for 7 years in London (2004-2011, N16 then W9) - parked kerbside, the usual.
Cheapest year was about £750, most expensive about £1100. Elephant, then Admiral. No complaints tbh.

  • I was advised (by a friend who works for an insurance company) to add people (my mother, father, girlfriend, her parents) to my insurance, checking with each addition what the impact was- I stopped when the cost stopped dropping.

I pay ~£400/year, fully comp on a group 20 car.

  • ^^elephant and admiral are the same company and thus will happily match each other's prices if you get bored of switching between them. This is the first year my insurance has been reasonable at £360 on a 1.4 corsa b that's 17 years old. And that's third party only f+t. It's a joke. (Been driving for 9 years)

  • It's the only advantage of being my age- that and the free bus pass.

  • Who is this James chap and why aren't we all at his house?

    Epic collection.

  • 320 for the Cayman, 420 for the Scooby. Go figure. When I chop the Piglet in for an M5 Touring the insurance will go up. To 335.

  • mine is 121

  • Oh, and the insurance for the Striker is 103 GBP a year, but that's limited mileage - a maximum of 3000 miles a year.

  • Me?

    I'm number 6.

  • 2700 a year....everything declared....maybe not

  • Pfft, show-offs :)

Just added both parents and it has gone down to £680 for 2002 Mercedes C180 4 door, stopped going down after adding others. Pretty shocked tbh, seems very reasonable for first year's insurance. Plus there is 17.5% cashback on quidco which knocks a decent bit off. Adrian Flux quoted me £2.5k this morning! >>>>>>>>

  • Nice.
My Merc 300TE cost me £760 to insure. I'd had my licence a month.

  • 2700 a year....everything declared....maybe not

2700 for that mini?!? Fucking hell

  • well considering i live in central, no garage etc its not that bad when my mates are pay 6/7+ for theirs

  • Jesus, that sucks dude.

  • I think mine was about £515 but Lancaster's APR is ridiculous and I end up paying £575 over 12 months.

  • Still pretty decent though.

  • That's pretty awesome. I'm amazed the AWD system wasn't scattered over the Autobahn.

  • I love it when a turbo is as big as a block!
