  • just get a Grammo

    ^ This

  • Got fed up of looking at it on my room unbuilt, so pinched the cranks off the Pompino. It's faaast. Apologies for potato photo.

  • riding brakeless? you hooligan!

how does the fit feel, ok or too long?

  • Thinking of setting my old commuter to 1x7 drivtrain. Have a possibility on a local listing to go for a cheap combo of 105 cranks, 105 derailleur and XTR shifter (would cost me all together around 50 Euro). From what I read this should work fine? What's the best (cheap) possibility for a chain guide on front (except old front derailleur)?

EDIT: On the back is a 7-speed Shimano Cassette.

On a worn 9spd chainring nonetheless.

With those base bars the reach is actually a little short, but obviously I shouldn't be spending too long in that position. Need to try it with extensions, but I think it'll be spot on. Arse relative to BB position seems great as well.

  • Project Black Metal Vigo is coming along. Got the chainring bolts today so I could actually attach the chainring and got the chain a couple of days ago.
I'm not happy with the chain because I didn't realise the galvanized coating would make it look like it's painted silver. I'm going to buy a silver KMC Devil when they come back in stock. Also the cranks required a bit of filing on the top edges of the spider arms and the inside of the crank arm to fit the chainring over the top and I don't particularly like it, so I want to swap it for some Sram Red ones as they should fit without issue, but can't find any second hand in 165.
The bartape is getting replaced as soon as the new stuff turns up in the post and there's a Tester Topcap™ to come as well so I'll chop the steerer when that turns up.
Otherwise, it's in full working condition and is surprisingly light, 7.6kg according to my bathroom scales.
Also the spray job is proper shoddy and is scratching off at the slightest touch despite the coats of lacquer.

    Needs a red seatpost.

  • [*]With double straps, the MKS Urbans are (thankfully) fine, comfortable and not slippy for me.

I used some off cuts of skateboard grip tape and stuck them on both sides, especially useful on the underside and filed lil notches in some bits to, bit tricky to get out but i just wiggle like a spd.

  • how much to upgrade my steel frame currently w/downtube friction shifter to modern day STI group?

best cobbling together a mix of, like, 105 and tiagra/sora?

also how best to paint chainstay that's chipped from chain slap? just need to touch up cosmetics before covering w/sticky guard

  • my dura ace stuff bits would be a good start....

    http://www.lfgss.com/thread118388.html

  • If you prefer sram I could sort you out.

  • New project arrived, trying to identify the frame, any help? It's 531 stamped LM 004 non branded track ends of forks drop outs. The chain stay are pretty beefy for such a small frame it's making me think a combination of tubing.

  • ^ Steerer cut too short? there doesn't seem to be a complete headset there (No locking nut).

  • ^ you're right, however the steering doesn't seem to have been cut, maybe it's for a low stack hs, I shall try a gipiemme I have in my parts bin.

  • ^^^ that's beautiful, particularly the forks

  • can someone recommend a weight weenie but safe, black finishing kit for a 1" threaded frameset with 27.2 seatpost ?

This would be 188g which is fucking heavy but light for a quill - you could mod it (if you can find one!) but will always be a big lass.

KCNC/Syntace and replace the bolts with Ti - use with a quill adaptor will still be lighter and easier to come across. You should be able to get under 150g for the stem and around 110g for the seatpost.

  • I have a profile design stem which is pretty light, like this:

Id be willing to bet its a smidge lighter than the syntace, if you can find one that is

  • Replacing the quill screw with a Ti one from PMP will take a bit of weight off both those quill stems

    http://www.pmpbike.net/pmp-bike-en/?product=t-005-vite

Lightest I had was an ITM Krystal with PMP bolt tuning package which at 120mm long weighed 183gram. I'm guessing that a quill adapter and stem are going to come in heavier .. a quick google shows Genetic Alloy Quill to Ahead Stem Converter at 230g plus 100g for a tunned Syntace F99 would give you 330g ..

Also have a look at this .. http://velospace.org/node/6214 .. the build may give you some ideas?

  • So I want nicer frame for my daily fixed. What I want is external 1 1/8 headset, atleast drilled rear to take Raceblade Long or Roadracer, 110mm, pursuit or parallel to ground top tube, around 400 euros for frameset. Located in Europe, any ideas?

Is it really worth trying to find any WW stuff for your somec? Surely if you were worried about weight you'd chose a different frame or at the very least replace the fork with a carbon on.

Check the which groupset thread. Ed posted a sensible combo they would come in at around £240 new and Amy is selling his 6700.

  • Syncros Altura 100m -17.5 is 176gram if you can find one:

  • ^ this

  • ^^ want

    don't even haz threaded build
