Will check the contract small print then call the landlord if he doesn't reply to my text.

We're due a full deposit return which hasnt yet happened so I'm sure it's no real administrative strain to return the money.

I'm rather gutted the landlord didn't do the honourable thing and mention it to me; after all the payment was sent a week ago.

Don't rely on a text - send a letter, recorded delivery. Give him 14 days, then take him to court.
