Have you run a rear brake on the rims? is it out of true? rims is very likely to be perfectly fine, unless you have a dent, or a crack on it.
The old hubs should be serviceable, you can alway pay a LBS to do it for you, or do it yourself.
A new hubs, with new spokes, labour cost, etc. will cost a lots more despite the advantage of cartridge bearing.
