  • present for the other half?

  • Yeah, but I've never heard of them so wanted to see if they had any reputation good or bad.

  • the quality seems to be decent. my mom has ben wearing one for years now with no issues, I think.
    the mesh bracelet is nice.
I think they have some titanium versions. you can't really go wrong with titanium.
other than that I think they sell on the design more than quality and I'm not that keen on their style.
If you like it there's also a sub brand kalled grenen, I don't really know the difference between the two though.

  • other than that i think they sell on the design more than quality

    imo

  • It's the first watch she's every expressed an interest in. I don't really care if it's some shitty fashion watch unless it's an shitty fashion watch that dies in 12 months. Then I will have to hurt some Danish people and I like their pastries so it would be unpleasant for both parties..

  • You'd damage international baked goods relations over a watch?

I'd end the planet over less. It's the principle of the matter.

  • .... you can't really go wrong with titanium.
    ....

Only thing to look out for in Ti bracelets is if it has steel pins. These can wear the Ti making pin holes larger so that the bracelet becomes gradually looser, or at worst mean pins then fall out and you could end up losing the watch, or at least find it very hard to find pins to fit. This has happened to a friends Ti strap watch.
If you can get Ti pins then problem solved.

  • My partner Sarah has been wearing the same Skagen for years now with no problems whatsoever. It seems well made and reliable.

  • hippy, have a look at the watches here

What am I looking at? Some are similar and around the same price but she's picked a couple she already likes.

Obviously I'd prefer to get her a DSSD as they suit a small lady's wrist. :)

  • Titanium pin upgrade... Simplez...

    just similar looking watches really.

  • I'm very tempted by one of these. A bit of a gamble but, if Steinhart continue to grow, it could be a future collectors item. It is the first watch from them to house their in-house movement; the ST.5: http://www.steinhartwatches.de/en/steinhart-st5.html
While not strictly a proper custom movement, but a rebadged Seagull / Hangzhou movement, it's still a big step for a smaller brand.

Add to the above, the similarity (read "homage") to the early 369 Rolex Explorers (http://rolexpassionreport.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/Rolex6538_red.jpg) and you've got something that should, at the very least, hold it's value...

  • When I get a real job, Steinhart will be my first port of call.

  • ^^I think you're kidding yourself dude.

  • ^^I think you're kidding yourself dude.

    Ha. I don't think I am.

Obviously it will never be something that will be sitting in a case at Sotheby's in 50 years time but, at under £500, i'd be happy with getting my money back if I decide to sell it in 10 years.

  • If you want to get a watch that might appreciate in value for not very much, get a Dreadnought GMT. The first issue sell for 3 times the new price and the GMT version still looks badass.

  • Hmm... the other criteria is, of course, that they suit me. I'm not sure the Dreadnought is for me.

  • It is a rather odd beast.

  • It looks like something Iain would like...

  • ^ This...

  • Thats a bit harsh. It might not be to your taste but no need to Chainbreak it!

This however is right up Iain's alley: What are Steinhart thinking?

  • ^ i quite like those... :(

    A bit:

  • I guessed it was heavily based on something but didn't know what.

Their Ocean 44 is fairly tidy even if not to my tastes.

I've got a new watch itch and its getting worse.
