What's going on here? Sounds like a bag of spanners as the chain joins and leaves the ring.

Chain line is probably way off

Is it a new chain and older ring? When I put a new chain on a ring and sprocket that were a few thousand miles old it sounded terrible to start with because the wear on the old stuff didn't line up properly with the lack of wear on the new chain. If that's the case it should sort itself out after a few rides.

(That's if A+P's chainline suggestion isn't the cause)

I have similar experience as ltc with mine, especially when my cassette look fine but sound (and feel) a bit off.
Replaced cassette and issues disappear, even though under close inspection, the cassette look to be fine.

I have exactly the same problem. No amount of chain adjustment seems to work. Lubing it weekly seems to work a bit, but aside from that I'm completely stuck. I want to replace the chain (maybe stretch, but measuring it says otherwise) but what if it's actually the chain ring that's worn out.

The grips on my handlebars keep spinning around, I think maybe some water got in as the bike was sat in the rain all day Saturday. Whats the best method for making them more grippy?
Ive heard removing them and spraying hairspray inside, does this actually work?

It does, the cheapest nastiest the best, or disc brake cleaner.

Might need to occasionally re-spray them with hairspray if they get crazy wet. I think one of the guys at polo used silicone spray sealant or something which works great.

Having said that, I heard ketchup work the best, ask Tp88.

awesome, I'm sure the missus has some cheap hairspray at home. I'll give it a go.

Clear lacquer does it, more permanent than hairspray, not sure how easy it is to remove the grips though, you'd probably have to cut them off.

I'm not planning on removing them any time soon so thats fine with me.

Bloody gorgeous!
I'd love to have something similar(ish), and this has been the inspiration since I first saw it for something I've been playing around on bikeCAD for a while, kinda mostly endurance road with a tad of CX.
Road 73/73 angles, 10-15mm more tyre clearance (than normal for road) front and rear for up to 32mm Paselas with a bit of room for gloop, 70-72mm BB drop, 400mm reach and 600mm(ish) stack, but with disk brake mounts instead of cantis.
Would like crabon forks, but don't think I'll find any with around 377.5-382.5mm A-C with disk mounts somehow.

Out of interest psee, what size tyres are those in the pic?
And is it TIG welded?

It seems the chain isn't wide enough: it doesn't engage properly until it reaches one or two o'clock on the ring and doesn't disengage until about seven o'clock (much like chain suck).Similarly, it is tight on the sprocket.
Everything is brand new and all 1/8"; the chain is a Connex 1Z1 "...for all hub gears with wider cogs and singlespeed".
Anyone else using one? Do they have a coating which needs to be worn off?

Thanks man. Finished it so late in fall that i haven't really had the chance to ride it properly yet but i'm quite sure i won't part with this for quite some time. In hindsight i kind of wish i'd chosen disc brakes as well, but then i have a rain/shiteweather bike with discs so i stuck to cantis. Tyres are 32mm paselas. Profile is kind of quirky due to narrow rims. Will be building a wider and stronger wheelset next spring. It's actually fillet brazed. At least the front triangle. Front rack is off again.
