  • Shite. Just broke my scanner. Anybody feel like being generous for a couple days?

  • Phil, if you don't mind it being a bit bigger, the Yashica electro 35 gtn/gsn is hard to beat. Amazing lens, usually 1.7 or 1.8, really sharp, beautifully coated giving great results. It is the same size if not bigger than a film slr though.

I could lend you mine if you want to put a roll through?

  • How about 8 of them? I can leave you my soul and wallet as insurance!

  • Recommendations for a rangefinder? Would like a fast-ish 35mm lens, manual or aperture priority, small as possible.

Was thinking of Olmpus 35SP or XA (though didn't get on with the xa2).

If you don't mind the narrow shutter speed band, min 1/500, the contax t2 is a lovely camera

  • The t2 is sexy and take amazing photos/

    Grow up. Get a G2.

  • Dunno why you would put lomography and contax t2 in the same sentence

  • Grow up. Get a G2.

That'd be my choice if I invest in film cameras again. A g2 and a t2 has quite different uses though so I'll stick to adolescence please

Thanks for the offer, definitely need something small though, mainly looking for something that just stays in my bag all the time.

Contax anything is a bit out of my price range I think, looking for something no more than 100

  • Canonet?

  • The Olympus XA is great... like Tina Kino said it can be hard to focus but the lens is amazing and you can get one cheap as dirt.

Considering your requirements I wouldn't normally think of suggesting anything else, but it depends why you didn't like the XA2. If it's because of the zone focusing I find that's pretty much how I use the XA anyway so maybe it wouldn't be what you want.

Actually even with the focusing thing I would use it as my main camera except that I tend to beat up my cameras and after owning it about a week it became clear it wouldn't survive being carried around in my pocket too long. It's tough enough to survive being carried in a bag or by a more careful owner though. I just love that lens.

  • This is all wrong. It should say "Grüße aus Bahlin".

  • Reasons for not liking the XA2 -

The shutter release - rarely worked first time and there is no feedback on it so I never ever knew when it was going to take a picture. It may have been a dodgy camera but I did have 2 different ones.

Zone focusing - although I found leaving it in the middle (mostly by accident) was usually ok for most shots.

Lack of control - would like to be able to change the aperture and focus correctly

When I got a good shot out of it, it was great, but that didn't happen very often.

  • The XA gives way more control, more info but is fiddly, really fiddly and the rangefinder is often pretty dim.

  • 20x25.5 inch prints of these two images available. Matte or high gloss. I'm really just trying to get some cash back on my costs so I'm doing them for 30 quid + postage.

Voigtländer Vitessa N with Ultron 50mm f/2.0. No plastic but still self-protecting like the XA. Wonderful optics and mechanics in a nice quirky package!

It was one of the finest fashion accessory cameras of its era.

  • Bit of a long shot but does anyone have a decent light meter they'd be willing to part with for cash?

  • Well the one beautiful and bright foggy morning that I actually managed to get outside and shoot I lost what I am sure would have been a lovely roll of ektar because none of it wound...

    Quite gutted.

Edit: But what can you do.

  • Shit news. You sure?

Can't believe the difference a good scanner makes for 35mm, might actually enjoy shooting it now.

  • Definitely, came home to rewind it and two turns of the crank later it was back in the canister.

I guess the bonus is that I don't have to but anther roll to shoot more.

  • MX? Those white bar things suck imo, I always wind on once with the back open to make sure it takes, and sometimes I put a fold in the end of the leader.

    We've all done it.

Load film as per owners manual.
Do not press the rewind button, and gently rewind until the slack in the can has been taken up - very gently, to avoid pulling the film off the take-up spool or tearing sprocket holes. Once the slack is taken up, use everything as normal.
The rewind handle should now rotate each time you advance the film, giving confirmation that the film is moving not just the mechanism.

I think you posted about acquiring a Pentax MX further up thread? If you haven't got an owners handbook, this: http://www.butkus.org/chinon/pentax/pentax_mx/pentax_mx-splash.htm - might be useful - especially page 10.

I just jam the leader tightly between any two bars, tauten the film a bit by rewinding so it lies flat,
close camera, advance, and watch the rewind crank and the funny indivator-thing.
Never had a problem, and really prefer the white bar thing to 'regular' takeup spools tbh..

  • Anyone in here got a colour zine printed?
