  • Managed to do a spot of brazing in college today. I'm quite pleased with my efforts.

  • s.walrus this might be of use to you http://alexwetmore.org/?page_id=1160

  • subd

  • Having had a couple of inquiries with regard to me making the aluminium fittings. I am happy to do so at a cost of £50 for the set of 5. pm if your interested.

  • What do you reckon the costs are on the rest of the parts?

  • What course are you doing in college ?

  • £65 for the extrusion plus extra for brackets and bolts so less than £100 i should think. i have seen this on ebay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/40x40-ALUMINIUM-PROFILE-SLOT-10mm-EXTRUSION-MACHINE-JIG-CNC-BUILDING-FRAMES-/261192239771?pt=UK_BOI_Metalworking_Milling_Welding_Metalworking_Supplies_ET&var=&hash=item3cd0454a9b
6m should be ample and they will cut it for you.

  • Wow, not bad for something to have a go on.

  • Looking forward to watching this thread grow.

  • Saw this and must say i am mightily impressed must be the finest homemade jig i have seen to date. love the counterbalanced stand allowing for vertical movement, along with rotational adjustment.

  • I have been thinking about the jig design and will have decided to go for a beam style jig luckily the parts already machined should work fine. this is what i will be attempting:

  • Despite your recent flaming in a certain sales thread, this project is really interesting. Nice braze effort too.

  • Subscribed. Really looking forward to watching this progress, with immense jealousy.

  • subscribed also, good stuff

  • Very promising thread this. Nice work so far!

  • Can you guess what it is yet kids?

  • One can't build frames on the floor.

  • is welding on wood an entirely good idea?

  • Welding will be done in a park stand and tacking done in jig mostly
The parts above are lug mandrels made by me, basically an internal clamp to hold a lug while it is being worked upon

  • Long time little progress... in other news....

My friend and I are looking to rent a workshop space in and around London focussing mainly on the east end. rent is likely to be in the region of £250 per month. I will be building bicycle frame and my colleague will be general metal fabrication and machining. let us know if you are interested. Hopefully we will be in a premises by the end of March.

    PM if you are interested

    Jim

  • jig has been not progressed far but i have been busy practicing.

  • started work on a lugged track frame also.

  • How you're holding those lug "vises"?
I'm thinking of making similar lug vises, but with big hex nut at the end of the tube for easier clamping in the vise.

  • that will be my revision for 2.0 they are a bit of a pain to clamp right now.

  • Thanks for the info, I'll continue with the original plan then.
