  • Nebraska just on locally - hopefully see it next week

  • Nobody watched The Counsellor? It's great.

  • Gravity - at once fucking amazing and a big pile of toss. When the action is on and things are exploding/spinning off into space/etc. it's great. Forked out to watch it at the IMAX and it paid dividends. As a kinetic spectacle it's a massive win. Unfortunately, at the script level it is largely a failure, and every time the action stops and the characters start opening their mouths it becomes either boring or cringeworthy.

I imagine it will be absolute rubbish on a small screen.

Also watched Beyond the Black Rainbow, which is plodding and mostly silly, but is fucking trippy and looks absolutely amazing so maybe if you're high and you've got the option to watch it then give it a go.

  • The Family... Fan-tas-tic!

Apart from the soundtrack... Blur are CUNTS...

  • captain philips. Solid 8 outa 10 - the last third dragged on a bit and coulda done with a few more homicidal cyborgs from the future. Almost enough to make you forgive tom hanks for all that mawkish, whimsical toss he did in the 90s.

and i bet he still signs his checks " T.hanks "

  • Wouldn't you?

  • why? when i can just sign them "Mr GET IN THE BACK OF THE VAN!"

  • You may like Antiviral if you're into Cronenberg. Not full convincing but a good creepy mood IMHO.

Yeah, I did enjoy this. Not a perfect movie, but definitely weird enough for me. Cheers for the recommendation.

In retrospect though, given all the needles and all the bleeding from the mouth this may not have been the best movie to watch directly before going to the dentists for a root canal.

    Exactly this.

Looks incredible, but that's just masking a very very average and pretty laughable film. The whole second half is toss really. Flying through space using a fire extinguisher!? Then the ending, with the sinking (trying to avoid spoilers)...everyone in the cinema just laughed a bit of a 'this is fucking ridiculous' laugh.

  • Flying through space using a fire extinguisher!?

Don't see what's wrong with this. It worked for WALL-E.

    WALL-E was a documentary, right?

  • Exactly this.

    Double exactly this.

The horrible, horrible dialogue and erotic Bullock-in-pants shots had the audience muttering and giggling to one another when I saw it.

I'm sort of pleased I spunked £25 to see it in threedee because it will be appalling on telly.

  • The Intouchables. Amazing film.

Got around to watching this and really enjoyed it. Did a good job of treading the line between feel-good and cloying.

  • #spoileralert

was totally hoping crocodiles would grab Bullock-in-pants, managing to somehow get away, only to be chased by Lions.

  • not exactly filmy, but i've been watching BET & Marvel Animation's very canny treatment of The Black Panther. The story behind the production is interesting insofar as once it was financed and made, the people at Marvel towers pulled it because it thought its content was a bit too rum for a mainstream broadcast audience. Watch and you'll kinda see why.

released on DoovDer and of course - youtubes
    .

    /comic book virgin

  • If you like the comics try some of the animated movies, batman series is pretty darn good.

  • batman is a load of right wing reactionary wank lol.

  • yes boss.

  • that black panther was actually pretty entertaining. are there more episode?

  • Prisoners. Good.

  • Watched Stoker. Not bad, expertedly framed and acted, too much form over content for me. Still better than 80% of movies.

I liked The Vengeance movies / I'm a cyborg / Thirst and the horror short from 3 extremes more from Chan-Wook Park. Still no denying the skill in use for timing, framing, colour, mood.

  • Finally watched Attack the Block... Stupid and hilarious, the opening panning aerial shot finishes on Oval tube station... South London bad boys vs. the alien invasion...

    Mad hectic, believe... Peace...

  • I enjoyed it. Thought the monster design was ace. You hear Joe Cornish is being tipped to direct the next Star Trek film? Come a long way since Channel 4...

  • ATB always gets watched whenever its repeated.

    J Lawrence is fantastic

  • David O Russel has a hell of a cast
