Use an anti bacterial wash for synth baselayers and lycra; Tesco have an own brand one or get Halo from Wiggle. The bacteria embed themselves in cavities in the fibres themselves; merino fibres have no cavities so bacteria cannot emebd themselves.

I switched to bio "destroy everything you hold dear" washing gel stuff - fuck it. Everything smells great now. Except bloody helmets.
