Your Garmin help, please

I usually turn off the turn-by-turn and rerouting function on my Garmin, and just rely on following the highlighted route, I loved my Garmin but it took me quite a while to come to term with it.

I know how to do this for downloaded routes but is there a way to turn off turn-by-turn when you get the garmin to route you?
