  • oh really? any links?

I've just ordered another one. :(

  • What did you order? The same again?

  • Yeah, I bought the same again so the wheel build will be easy, just a case of dismantling the old one and rebuilding with the exact same hub.

I'm 100% sure it was my fault, the lock ring felt dodgy when I was putting it on the first time, I think it was an old cheap one that was fucked and had been living at the bottom of my parts bin for a while. I've ordered the planet x lock ring to match the hub so shouldnt have any issues this time.

  • oh really? any links?

I've just ordered another one. :(

currently trying to find it, but they managed to get a new one due to faulty hubs.

  • ah dont worry about it. I'm certain the hub was fine, the lock ring was definitely to blame.

In other news my 32c rear tyre just arrived so when I do get the wheel sorted I should hopefully be able to fit the mudguards.

  • You mean that's not the tyres you want to run?

  • You mean that's not the tyres you want to run?

I bought 35c front and rear, but had an issue with mudguard clearance on the rear so had to size down.

  • Make sense, the max I managed (just) were 32mm.

Having said that, 32mm (or 28mm) with those wider rims will have an equally nice ride quality.

  • Okay my new lock ring just arrived, and just to be sure that the thread was definitely fucked on my hub I chucked it on there, it worked fine.

Derpface over here used a fucked lock ring, and then tried another fucked lock ring and then blamed the hub. #idiot

This leads me to question where all these lock rings came from and why I've kept hold of them.....

  • Well at least you saved yourself from re-building your wheel. Perhaps you can send the new hub back.

  • Yeahh, it was only £25, I'll probably just keep hold of it. I'm sure it will get used in the future.

  • It's back on the road, still need to fit the front mudguard but I need to get a new hacksaw blade, and a bolt for the brake hole - SKS dont provide one with the guards which is a bit shit.

I'll try and get someone with fancy camera skills to take some better photos when it's finished.

  • looks great.

    Hacksaw for the smudguard stays?

I used a pair of bolt cutters on mine.

I'd prefer riser bars and slammed stem though really, and blacked out brake surfaces...

  • Cheers.

I used a hacksaw for the rear because thats what I had, a bolt cutter would probably work better.

Yeah I preferred risers too but the ones I had wouldnt fit my brake lever on and I'm too poor to buy any more right now so these will have to do.

I actually taped up the brake surface but the wheel builder took it all off when he built the wheels and I never bothered putting it back on. The rack is going to be silver so I figured I would leave the brake surface and see if it looked okay when I put that on, if not I'll get the tape back on it.

I'm also not completely sold on the gumwalls yet, everyone seems to love them but I'm just not sure they look right.

  • fair enough.

I think with the brake surfaces taped the gumwalls will be poppin!

  • Yeah I'm gonna give it a go. Theyre super comfortable tyres.

I'm getting my LBS to have a look at my brake today too, I think i've set it up right but I just want someone to check for my own peace of mind.

  • Buy a dremel instead, they're useful for everything from trimming housing to cutting stay.

  • You can buy me one for Christmas if you want? :D

  • I have a bolt cutter if you want to swing by polo on Thursday. Leaves the ends a little sharper than hacksaw/Dremel but it's lot quicker.

  • that would be great! Yeah I'll definitely do that, it took me ages to hacksaw the rear ones and it destroyed my crappy blade. Cheers man.

  • No problem, drop me a PM tomorrow and I'll let you know what time I'll be there.

  • sweet man, thanks.

  • If the sharpness is a problem, 2 minutes with a file will sort it.

  • nice pomp. you could tilt the brake lever down a bit for a more natural hand/finger resting position

actually had the same thought today when I tried to use it. Will sort that tonight.
