Sounds like it sets a horrible precedent. In that it means the fine is essentially meaningless as the fee from the TV company will cover it.

Ofcom is quite clear about this: Payments to Criminals No payment, promise of payment or payment in kind may be made to convicted or confessed criminals for interviews or some other contribution to the programme in relation to their crimes, the only exception being where it is in the public interest.

So she got up at sparrow fart to travel to London and isn't getting any dosh. This has been blown up out of all precaution.

If she was paid it's in direct contravention of section 3.3 of the broadcasting code.

3.3 No payment, promise of payment, or payment in kind, may be made to convicted or confessed criminals whether directly or indirectly for a programme contribution by the criminal (or any other person) relating to his/her crime/s. The only exception is where it is in the public interest.
