Watching people grind up Box Mountain in 34/27 is MEGALOLZ
watching people gear their super-light race bike to only ride the strava segments of the Surreynees mountains seems retarded...
The reality of swapping out a standard chainset for compact when you go somewhere decent for riding means a new chainset and a shorter chain to get decent shifting. If its bedded with the cassette then swap that too or enter in to a complex chain rotation method to match the wear on all your blocks.
I used to keep both, but in reality a compact does all well and means you have a well tuned setup if you select the right casette. 11-27 super record is on my wishlist as i miss the little cog on on my 12-27.
